Been awhile since I posted but hoping to be better at this in the new year. Look what happened last week! This was a long time coming and grateful to be here. Been training for close to 8 years now but a lot happened since I got my blue. The pandemic hit, I moved almost an hour away from my academy and also got more promotions/responsibilities at work. All these elements have made it difficult to be consistent. I would be missing weeks or months at a time, but I always told myself to just show up when I could. I don’t train as much as I’d like to anymore and I have no idea if I’ll ever make it to black. I am however very fortunate to be training with such an amazing team in the morning and I love that I’m still learning new things every time I’m on the mat.
I want to thank my coach @spaceoak_arivers for mentoring and teaching me all these years. I told him the other day I would not be in jiujitsu if not for his morning classes. He’s always been patient and extremely detailed. He’s let me explore what’s worked for me while at the same time providing a guiding hand for areas of improvement. I feel lucky to be under his guidance for so many years. Also shout out to all those early 5-star members when our class was like 4 or 5 people to start, @jerryhsieh55 , @lufreddy77 , Kyle….to name a few.
Lastly, shout out to @yongkukim1 . We started at another school together and he eventually joined me at 5-star. He’s an amazing dude who is extremely talented and has already surpassed me through his dedication to the sport. He’s been an amazing friend who’s kept me accountable all these years. Always hitting me up about when I’m gonna be training again. He’s kept me motivated through the years and grateful to be on the mats with him.
My partner throughout the craziest world event of our lives...so far. From the very beginning of the pandemic to getting our vaccines together, we powered through it. It wasn’t easy, but we always had each other. @juriouskim
