Just over a year ago we finished shooting ‘Against The Natural Order’ - a short film written and directed by my best friend @isabellagiov about me and the week following the death of my son Finn, but from their point of view. In reality we spent a week in an Airbnb in Perth with a group of close friends & family, waiting for Finn’s infant body to be released to us through a chaotic and agonising string of events. Many parts of this film are fictionalised and changed to suit the format yet a lot of it is exactly how things happened at the time, down to some exact quotes and devastating / surreal moments. Isabella did such a insane job of creating this and keeping it vested in our relationship and the real events blended with their unique film making approach and through the lense of us both being Autistic and ADHD (though we both weren’t diagnosed til many years later). Spending those days in Aireys Inlet filming together with some of our closest mates and collaborators is something I’ll never forget. It felt like we were back at film school together, stoked to be making something together again with a lot of personal meaning for us all. I’d like to pay special thanks to our imitable producers @tobiaswillis and @bliss_n_tesso who navigated this wild process with consideration of everyone’s grief & connection to the story while balancing hectic logistics, crewing and scheduling challenges. Literally the dream team 🙏🏻 When I was first sent a draft of a script I said immediately it had to be shot by beautiful babe @joeyknoxy who was the first choice and then we lost him to London for a bit and through some sort of miracle of timing and luck he came back to us which felt so kismet and perfect ❤️‍🔥 He brought with him the best of the best camera team @_lachlannnn and @nathanrguy which I couldn’t have been more stoked about 🥰 Amazing gaffing from @steadipalms and assistant Louis along with onset doggo Gigi for the cuddles ❤️ incredible to spend time with gorgeous @lloydolcevita on sound and @vikki10.93 steering the ship as 1st AD 😍 my old housemate and bestie @kathleenmarylee there for every moment and support in the background 🙏🏻 Caption continued in comments!

Everyone should be included in the travel experience no matter your ability. FilmInk have published a story on Wheel Around the World that goes deeper than the videos ever can. One line in the article stood out straight away.
“Accessibility is not a nice to have. It is a necessity.” Those moments where you cannot get into a hotel room or you are searching for a bathroom you can safely use are not small things. They are reminders of how far the world still has to go. The Taiwan series premieres this week on YouTube. I had to wheel around the entire country just to make this one happen. New episodes drop weekly. Taiwan challenged me in ways I did not expect. It pushed me on mountain roads in the dark and left me stranded at accommodation I could not access. But it also gave me moments of genuine kindness from people who cared enough to help. Thanks to FilmInk for shining a light on this conversation.

TAIWAN IN A WHEELCHAIR – THE TEASER
This is not your average travel series.
I land in Taiwan and the chaos begins… street food overload, a hotel fail, and a search for accessibility in a city that’s not built for wheels. We’re diving into the wild, the awkward, and the real.
From rainy alleyways to neon-lit night markets and some brutally honest chats about access.
📺 First episode drops this Wednesday. New eps weekly

I am so excited to announce that Wheel Around the World Taiwan series is going live on Wednesday which is National Day for People with Disabilities. This is one of the biggest projects I have ever taken on. I want people with disabilities watching at home to know that you have a place in this world. You deserve to travel. You deserve to be seen. You deserve to experience every corner of the planet just like anybody else. It genuinely shocks me that there are no mainstream television travel shows hosted by a person with a disability. We need real representation on our screens because when people see us they understand us and when they understand us the world becomes more accessible for everyone. If you want to see more representation on mainstream television and streaming services the most powerful thing you can do is support the content that already exists. SHARE IT. Comment on it. Talk about it. THAT is how change happens. THAT is how we open doors for the next generation. Thank you to Screen Australia for believing in this project and supporting it. Head to my YouTube Wednesday to watch. Thank you and I hope you enjoy. Image descriptions Shane rolling through a busy Taipei night market filled with neon signs and scooters. Shane in a yellow jacket high fiving another wheelchair user in a crowded station. Shane talking with a woman in glasses who gestures passionately as they speak. Shane rolling with a power assist while a woman walks beside him. Close up of shoes and a mobility cane. Shane laughing in a pink traditional outfit posing with locals and later smiling with a fan. Shane hugging a local man at an ATV shop. Later riding an ATV along the beach. A woman making a heart shape with her arms. Shane rolling down a wet city street with a friend. Colourful lanterns floating above a street. Shane holding a lantern that says like and subscribe with a friend. Shane boarding a high speed train and later seated in a priority area among passengers. Shane talking to an older man using outdoor gym equipment. Later being guided up a ramp into a building.

I’m excited to announce a project I’ve been working on. WHEEL AROUND THE WORLD: Taiwan. It’s soon to be released worldwide, which is incredibly exciting. We’re now on the lookout for people to help with audience testing. Whether you’re a person with a disability, someone in the industry, or just curious to watch and give feedback, we’d love for you to be part of this. You’ll get early access to the series and help shape how it all comes together. Everyone selected will be personally thanked in the credits once it’s released and invited to a premiere event. Those who are selected will be notified by email in the coming days. WHEEL AROUND THE WORLD is all about making the world more inclusive for people with disabilities, and your feedback will help us get there. A special thanks to the legends at KEWL Studio for producing this and editor Jade Rice for helping bring it to life. Keen to be involved?
