Deck brushing @tequilaanddeadliftsgym came in handy today when we went to @myakkaelephantranch for their rise and shine feeding. Do you know there are only a little over 300 elephants in the United States at this time? This was Patty, a retired entertainment industry veteran, at a lovely 55 years old. The elephants at the ranch receive a bath daily before heading out to eat for the day. The bath soap includes aloe and coconut oil and helps to moisturize their skin and the act of the bath provides them with both mental and tactile stimulation which they need even after retiring. They consume 10-15 lbs of grain with fruit and veg 2x a day and roughly 200 lbs of hay a day to maintain. We also got to give them a manicure to prevent any cracking of their toes and irritation in their feet. Did you know African and Asian elephants are in two totally different classes? Asian elephants are closely related to the wooly mammoth. Elephant conservation is incredibly important, these amazing, wonderful and gentle animals deserve so much love. What an incredible experience.

This song almost has me in as strong of a chokehold as the charcuterie board I made last night for movie crash outs after working 70+ hours last week. Straight up one of the best things I have done for myself this year has to be making sure I don’t have any appointments before 11 am on Mondays. The time to recharge and do admin items and drink my coffee without a rush has been life changing. No more Sunday scaries. As I’m aging I’m finding balance slowly but surely.
In all the craziness of this month - I forgot to share that the best man in my life, Hobbes, turned 5. He’s had a hell of a year with ear issues and allergies- but he’s still as playful as ever. He loves to Parkour off the furniture, snuffle out treats from every possible hiding place, jump on his big sister like a flying squirrel, cuddle as close to his human as can be and snore like a drunk trucker. I love him more than anything and am blessed for every single moment I get to have him in my life. ❤️
I swore I’d never put a man’s name on my body, but Adam had been my right hand since I met him. A Superman S would be disingenuous because I am not anywhere near as good of a person as Adam. But his name in Kryptonian felt like the right move. To honor his love for the lore. To keep him as my right hand man. I don’t know if life will ever feel the same- I don’t know if I want it to- sometimes I’m glad for this overwhelming pain because it means he is still here. Within each heartbeat. Within each moment. I see him everywhere- in the chair colors of red and blue at a restaurant. In the kindness our community shows. In the comic book roses clients left for us at the gym. I miss you every single fucking day @adamturckstrength . Thank you @dubwilltattoo for the memory.
Happy 15th birthday to my best girl. My longest lasting relationship. You’ve survived 3 roommates, 3 long term relationships, COUNTLESS bad dates, the loss of your big brother, one attempted break in and one shooting.
You have the best facial expressions and have as much sass as me, if not more. You aren’t a huge cuddler but you like to be close by. You refuse to be called old, still going on walks and playing with your siblings like 15 is just a number. You still put Penny in her place and smack Hobbes around.
You love a soft blanket and a softer pillow even more. Your bark is still as demanding as the day I got you, although you destroy much less furniture now.
My favorite fact about you is that when I had your ears and eyes checked this year the doctor told me, “she isn’t blind or deaf. She’s just ignoring you.”
I hope I get many more years of you choosing to ignore me. I love you sweet girl. Onyx ❤️
