Kalang Ave //
Progressing really well at Kalang. If you haven’t seen on my stories there was a water damaged LVL, causing the whole sliding door to sag. Funnily enough the tiles didn’t budge at all as the bed has steel in it, so it supported itself as the flooring and joists sagged.
This LVL was easily the biggest I have seen, a 600x85 LVL at 5.1m long. Seemed ridiculous to put in a beam of this size, at this location of the house. I was pretty surprised to see this shear size of it haha. It was super heavy too even with the decay. We replaced it with a Galvanised Steel 250 PFC.
We have now re supported the flooring loads to the new beam, re sheeted the damaged floors and now have waterproofing done.
We got the old door units fully re-serviced and with new track felts etc. Aluminium trays have been dry fitted and we will install next week ready for the sliders.

Final days at Hyams!
Building these custom lounge beds, we are using 18mm Birch Ply for these and they look amazing. The sheets have such a nice feel to them, and make the space feel really cool.
Pumping along to the finish line, finished the kitchen, deck is almost finished and nearly finished balustrade!
Huge shoutout to Tommy and Darcy for their help, and expertise. So grateful for the help.
Getting very close to finishing, cant wait to see it all come together!

Weekly Recap //
Slapping in some 135mm Spotted Gum last week, working full set out of boards to entire area. Then jumped onto the steps up onto the deck and worked out the stringers, cut and installed those.
Spotted gum Balustrade has been oiled up and looks unreal!
We are now starting on the interior works to push as we have cleaners booked in for a couple weeks time.
Final weeks at Hyams now pushing along to the finish line!

Another solid week down at Hyams, installing the spotted gum deck, spotted gum balustrade, stair works, and various moving things around and tidy up site! Freaking bugs were everywhere last week flying around my head haha.

Been a huge couple weeks down at Hyams, a lot going on at the moment!
We have almost completed our @ekodeck_ Castellation Screen going along the Fenceline near the Hot tub.
We have installed bearers for the Spotted Gum deck and concreted in the stirrups.
We jumped inside and got out of the rain and finished the fit off of the bathrooms.
Tommy has also been smashing out the 70x35 Spotted Gum Balustrade, doing an unreal job, gonna look sick when its done!
Plenty more awesome stuff to come and get wait to pump out this deck and watch the space come alive.

Hardwood //
Very excited to finally see some timber turning up this week at our Hyams beach project!
We have a lot going on inside for balustrades at the stairs, with some screens and finishing around the stairs.
The rest is for the Spotted Gum deck and an Ekodeck screen to go along the fenceline. This is going to be unreal, what a fantastic space to hang out.
Started the fit off of bathrooms inside. This job is now at the stage where everything starts to pull together. Its such a great time for us, as all the hard work finally starts to pays off.

Fix out //
Fair bit of fix out going on last week down at our Hyams project. Plenty of doors needed cutting down due to new flooring throughout upstairs and downstairs. Skirtings finalised downstairs.
Got a Spotted Gum deck to go around the hot tub, should look amazing. Cant wait to put this together and watch it come alive. We are also installing heaps of internal hardwood around the stairs, should look sick when finished.
Gerringong Deck and Screen completed last week also. It all came together really well in the end.

Eko Deck Refurbishment //
Last week we pulled apart this deck in Gerringong that was done a few years ago, the recent carpenter used primed pine for the fascias, which is not ideal and the clients wanted it fully re done, plus some poor detailing and average finishes all round.
We colour matched as best we could and decided to go with the @ekodeck_ designer series in Alpine Ash.
We had to re frame the entire deck as the tread measurements were too big. Which was great because we could frame it to a better set out.
We under cut the boards into the sandstone and re set the front nosing to finish in line with brickwork. We will re do the screen next week to finish it off!
Stoked with the outcome so far, these details are something we carry throughout all of our builds, renovations and carpentry works.

Floor Prep //
Another big week last week down at Hyams, getting all the floors prepped for the tiles on the two downstairs rumpus rooms. We got a concrete grinder on site to get all the paint off the floors as you cant glue to paint, plus we gave it buff while we were at it.
Progressing really well, all the bathrooms etc are coming together. Painters have finished stage 1 paint.
Well and truly getting close to seeing the final result! Got many more unreal works to come keep an eye out!

2016 - 2026 //
Let’s go back 10 years, wow it’s always interesting to look back.
I was a second year apprentice carpenter working in Wagga for a local builder. After completing my landscaping apprenticeship prior to this, I wanted to get back to carpentry as my passion never subsided with carpentry. I actually really enjoyed landscaping and I am grateful for everything i learnt in all those years, Cheers Benny Rodham!
So once I completed my landscaping i did another 4 year apprenticeship and at this point (photos above) I was a second year chippy at age 22! I started doing my own work on the side at this point. These photos were actually my now wife Lozzy’s first Salon, La Tay beauty she opened at age 21!
It was crazy even thinking about her now, taking on a huge loan to get this space set up! We did huge weeks getting this space sorted, I did my 8 hrs full time and headed there straight after work and worked til 8-9 most nights. I think the biggest week i clocked almost 100hrs on the tools. It was pretty nuts, but worth it in the end.
Fast forward a decade we have now an amazing space in Berry called @loulou_berry_ . we did a reno on this space also and it transformed into an amazing Salon and day spa.
I have my own building business now, I have worked on some really great high-end architectural homes on the south coast as a sub contractor.
I feel like we are only just getting started with what we will achieve.
Look forward to reviewing in 2036, but also quite happy to be in the moment right here right now.
