WIP UPDATE PART 12 for Opal, my cinematic short in @unrealengine . After 13 weeks of mocap, animation, lighting, and texturing, the film is almost finished. In this video, I share the emissive reveal effect I created for the final scene, where an ancient stone wall gradually lights up as if something hidden inside is awakening. Thanks for following along on this journey, excited to share the final film soon! #UnrealEngine #3DAnimation #MetaHuman #UE5 #Cinematics

WIP UPDATE PART 11 for Opal, my cinematic short in @unrealengine This week I focused on skin texturing to push MetaHuman realism. I share 3 tricks I’ve been using: custom roughness maps for sweat, layered Substrate materials for animated sweat beads (thanks to @jsfilmz0412 for the technique), and dirt details. Onto lighting next week! #UnrealEngine #MetaHuman #SubstancePainter #ue5

WIP UPDATE PART 10 for Opal, my cinematic short in @unrealengine This week I’ve been set dressing forest scenes and voxelizing Megascan plants to make them Nanite-compatible. It’s a quick workaround for cutout cards to keep shadows and avoid culling. More environment updates next week. #UnrealEngine #Nanite #Megascans #UE5 #Cinematics Kenematics WIP

WIP UPDATE PART 9 for Opal, my cinematic short in @unrealengine . This week I ran cloth simulations using @marvelousdesigner , and I share my go-to best practices for integration in Unreal. Next up is the set dressing and lighting the scene. #UnrealEngine #MarvelousDesigner #MetaHuman #3DAnimation #cinematics

WIP UPDATE PART 8 for Opal, my cinematic short in @unrealengine This week I’m recording virtual camera and share a hacky way to blend handheld shake with keyframed camera movements, which can be helpful if you’re working in a small space like me. Cloth sims are next! #UnrealEngine #virtualcamera #MetaHuman #3DAnimation #UE5 #Cinematics #Opal #Kenematics #WIP

WIP UPDATE PART 7 for Opal, my cinematic short in @unrealengine . This week I’ve been syncing body and facial animation, using one of Unreal’s most underrated features: indirect manipulation. It lets you move objects without grabbing the gizmo, which is a huge help in cluttered scenes. #UnrealEngine #MetaHuman #3DAnimation #UE5 #Cinematics #Opal #Kenematics #WIP #AnimationTips

WIP UPDATE PART 6 for Opal, my 3D cinematic short in @unrealengine This week I’ve been integrating facial capture into my MetaHumans using Unreal’s Live Link Hub with a just a webcam. Here’s the link to a setup tutorial: https://youtu.be/0dnEckD4Z1A. See you next week! #UnrealEngine #MetaHuman #FacialCapture #LiveLink #3DAnimation #UE5 #Cinematics #Kenematics #WIP

WIP UPDATE PART 5 for Opal, my latest cinematic short in @unrealengine This week I wrapped up body mocap using Inverse and Forward Kinematics. In this video, I show why FK can sometimes work better than IK, depending on the motion. Onto face animation next! #WorkInProgress #UnrealEngine #MetaHuman #3DAnimation #MoCap #IKvsFK #UE5 #Cinematics #Kenematics

WIP UPDATE PART 4 for Opal, my upcoming 3D cinematic short in @unrealengine This week, I’ve placed in the MetaHumans and started cleaning up the body animation. I’m also introducing props and using the Snapper tool to keep both hands moving in sync without manual keyframing. Next update coming next week! #WorkInProgress #UnrealEngine #MetaHuman #MoCap #3DAnimation #UE5 #Cinematics #Kenematics
