I’m so grateful I was able to spend last weekend walking through real spring, savouring all the blooms with my mom πŸ’• It’s taking longer than we’d like in Winnipeg, but the spring lushness will come for us eventually.

Squeaking in at the last minute to share my 2024-25 One Year One Outfit @pembinafibreshed pieces before we kick off the 4th round of the project this week! This collection focused on practicality, identifying gaps in my wardrobe. From the start, I knew I wanted to make a cardigan from a raw fleece, a project that carried me through most of the year: washing and carding my Leafhaven Shetlands fleece in spring 2024, spinning through the summer, and finishing the knitting in early 2025. The rest of my time went into creating staple pieces: socks with Sunflower Knit yarn and a vest and felted mittens from Big Oak Farm Lopi. I wear these with gratefulness, remembering the gifts of the land, the animals, and the labour of friends. 1/ Big Oak Vest πŸ‘: Icelandic Lopi from Jennifer DeGroot @bigoakfarmmb Flower: Orange pop courtesy of bicolor and cinnamon coreopsis from my garden. Pattern: See My Vest - Chunky by Emily Bolduan with a modified colorwork motif from the Icefall Sweater by @tIncanknits 2/ Joshua Cardigan πŸ‘: Joshua @leafhavenshetlands , fleece purchased at 2022 Manitoba Fibre Festival Pattern: Felix Cardigan by Amy Christoffers @savoryknitting 3/ Big Oak Mitts Fibre: Icelandic Lopi from @bigoakfarmmb Pattern: Modified from "Bernie Inspired Felted Mittens" by Shea Bellino 4/ Black Walnut Socks Fibre: Romanov wool @sunflowerknit Knit Slavic Sock yarn in two black walnut dye lots Pattern: Marpleridge Sock by @kateatherleyknits 5/ OYOO Organizers in front of the cohort display at the 2025 Manitoba Fibre Festival. So grateful for this team and the community that grows stronger with each round of this project. 6/ Captured at 1am the day the project was due with a pair of just-finished socks. Knitting for 15 hrs straight on size 1 needles will take you to altered states. I do not recommend. Onto the next season of fibre obsession.

Big frost finally hit, and the farm season is wrapping up. Once again, an "unusually" mild fall means we've been enjoying many extra weeks of huge veg vatiety! You can find @almost_urban_vegetables veggies at @stnorbertfarmersmarket today, 10-2. It's been a good one: 1) frost beauty 2) most of our fabulous crew 3) the best of the purple veggies 4) sky drama on last week's rainy harvest day 5) a favorite bouquet 6) groundcherries on cheesecake πŸ’… 7) garlic braids 8) if you know how much work it is to grow brassicas in MB, you know why broccoli is exciting 9) OCTOBER EGGPLANT 10) another fav bouquet for a special day 🧑

A smattering of things lately. It's CSA Week 4 at @almost_urban_vegetables (pic is from the Week 2 box because the colors were gorgeous), and the very first week of our Flower CSA. The garden is glowing, local fruits are here, and we're still hot and dry. Scroll all the way for a delightful doggo capture:)

First CSA Harvest at @almost_urban_vegetables today! The spring heat bumped some of our crops up a few weeks, resulting in an unusually exciting first share: garlic scapes, kale/collards, lettuce, arugula, parsley, rhubarb, green onions, HUGE salad turnips (insanely sweet) and juicy monster radishes.
