A young orange tabby, now nicknamed “Garfield,” is being called a miracle after surviving a train strike and being rescued from active Long Island Rail Road tracks between Lindenhurst and Babylon. First spotted motionless, the cat was later seen moving, prompting a coordinated rescue involving MTA police and a local animal rescuer, John DeBacker.
Garfield sustained severe injuries, including multiple fractures and significant trauma, but remains alert and fighting to recover. @south_shore_feral_care , an all-volunteer nonprofit, has been caring for Garfield and raising much-needed funds for his surgeries and rehabilitation.
VEG ER for Pets Carle Place (@veg ) is providing ongoing emergency care and stabilization for Garfield on weekends as he recovers from critical surgery that took place at @animalsurgicalcenter in Oceanside.
