On Thursday, I celebrated turning 39 by climbing a 65 million year old granite dome! I ended up winning the Half Dome lottery and of ALL days to get a slot, it was on my birthday. I was destined to climb this rock and that’s exactly what we did - @withmahta and I hit the road once again this year for another Yosemite bucket list item; summit Half Dome. We began the 16+ mi Half Dome trail before the sun came up, crested the summit by 1pm, and then got back to the car at 9:30pm. 15.5 hours of nonstop hiking and climbing, with the last three hour stretch of it being in total darkness and a large portion of it being steep staircases, shouldering the waterfalls. Good thing neither of us were on shrooms 👀…
For those wondering, the sub dome is tougher and way sketchier than the actual cable climb, especially in the 50mph wind gusts with nothing to hold onto. This is the hardest hike in the US, also incredibly dangerous even in the best conditions.
