On Thursday, May 14, 2026, the KCS Workforce Development Team was able to attend the 2026 TAAF Heritage Month Summit. Many organizations and groups were able to come together to celebrate TAAF’s 5th year in operation. The Summit focused on the constant evolving theme of AAPI safety, prosperity, and belonging. 💛 The KCS NJ team visited the New Day Program in Norwood on Wednesday (May 13th) in order to learn more about how their program operates. We also had the opportunity to hear stories from parents, staff, and board members alike on how KCS NJ can better support and collaborate with the special needs community. On May 12, the KCS’ PHRC outreach team conducted community outreach at the Wavecrest Shopping Center, connecting residents with information about the Social Care Network (SCN) and available NYC Benefits programs. Our team engaged community members one-on-one to help increase awareness of health and social service resources, including benefits that support healthcare access, food security, and overall well-being. Outreach efforts like these help address Social Determinants of Health by ensuring communities have access to critical information and support services. Sara Kim from the KCS Public Health & Research Center (PHRC) attended the two-day Cancer Prevention Dialogue hosted by the Prevent Cancer Foundation on May 7–8 in Arlington, VA. She is seen here with the CEO of the Prevent Cancer Foundation, Judy Hoyos, and Nikia Clark. The conference brought together public health leaders, healthcare professionals, researchers, advocates, and community organizations from across the country to discuss strategies for advancing cancer prevention, early detection, health equity, and access to care. KCS PHRC is proud to participate in national conversations that strengthen community-based cancer prevention efforts and support underserved and immigrant communities through education, screening, outreach, and patient navigation. On May 12, the KCS PHRC team joined the 18% and Growing Campaign at Queens Borough Hall, organized by Coalition for Asian American Children and Families, to stand alongside community leaders, advocates, and residents in raising awareness about the growing Asian American population and the importance of equitable representation, resources, and investment in our communities. The event provided an important opportunity to speak up for the needs of immigrant and underserved populations and to highlight the importance of culturally and linguistically responsive services in public health, social services, and civic engagement.
