𝐍𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐁𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐣 is a poet and a theatre and film practitioner from India, working as director, writer, performer, and researcher, with a particular interest in the expressive potential of gesture, movement, and interdisciplinary approaches. hrough his practice, Nitish Bhardwaj explores how performance can emerge from the body as gestures, combining theatrical, cinematic, and technological languages. His work continues to investigate rhythm, presence, and meaning, with hands and movement as central expressive instruments.
During his residency at workspacebrussels he will continue his research project Hastas, in which the hand is the primary instrument of performing.
𝐇𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐬 is a Sanskrit word for hands, or hand gestures. The projects builds on earlier explorations of hand gestures in different performances, as poetic and aesthetic material. After previous iterations, he now continues his research as a solo performer, while in dialogue and mentorship with dramaturg Bart Van den Eynde. In Hastas, the performance, he returns to the live body as an exploration to how hands can carry attention, memory, and intention on stage. Physical experiments and poetic text fragments allow meaning to emerge through gesture, rhythm, repetition, and stillness.
