📣 Exciting news! We're delighted to announce NYT Games art director @kathywhee has joined our 28 Day Comic Illustration Challenge as an Award Judge & Mentor! ✨
Katherine Lee is an award-winning Taiwanese-American art director from Kansas City, Missouri. She is a senior art director at The New York Times Games, heading the sections editorial visual expression and illustration collaborations.
Previously, she was the visual and UX designer at non-profit startup Rest of World, leading visual design on experimental projects focusing on technology in non-Western countries, and art directed at The Washington Post and The Boston Globe.
In 2019, she art directed and produced The Mueller Report Illustrated graphic nonfiction book published by The Washington Post and Scribner Books from Simon & Schuster.
Kathy is delighted to to join our 28 Day Comic Illustration Challenge as an Award judge & Mentor, to share her insight, expertise and advice with emerging illustrators. She will also set one of two editorial comic briefs for NYT Games!
Kathy says: "I'm always excited to collaborate with new artists that can bring fresh ideas to the table. I'm looking forward to seeing the diversity in work from the illustrators taking the challenge and seeing their thought processes and storytelling methods. I am also hoping that through the creative process we can collaborate and make something great together!"

Kathy is a member of the NYT Tech Guild, which has been on a multi-day ULP strike for management to sign a fair contract; and is asking users to boycott the use of the Games and Cooking apps until that contract is met.
