The Toronto Childrenâs Chorus (
@torontochildrenschorus ) is showing us exactly what happens when we treat the voice as the ultimate instrument. This is âEarth,â from Vancouver-based composer Katerina Gimonâs (
@katgimon ) âElementsâ cycle, and it is a total experience.
Rather than using traditional lyrics, Gimon uses abstract, improvised syllables to tap into the raw energy of the classical elements. Under the direction of Zimfira Poloz, the Chamber Choir uses harmonic overtone singing and a singing bowl to ground the vibrations. The result is a sound that feels like itâs rising straight from the soil, ancient, grounded, and deeply atmospheric.
Did you feel that specific shiver down your spine when the overtone harmonies kicked in?
Letâs talk about it below! đđ
