A Portland pop up famous for its giant, machete-shaped quesadillas, is setting up a long-term residence at a popular PDX bar. Machetes, a former pop-up, has taken up long-term residence at Hey Love, the bar inside the Jupiter NEXT Hotel, as of February 15. Machetes specializes in Mexico City street food dishes, including its namesake machetes—giant quesadillas on handmade tortillas that are the size and shape of a machete blade, stuffed with the customer’s choice of up to four guisados, or stews. The pop also has a special dining experience from March 16-20 at Hey Love with @veganizerpdx . Featured photo by @_castellan0s_ 🫶 Read the full story by Katherine Chew Hamilton at the link in bio. #portland #pdx #foodlover #vegan #quesadilla

New matcha spot in Portland: Mako Matcha Mill @makomatchamill opened in mid-February at 414 SW 13th Avenue in the former Cacao space. Owners Edison Zeng and Emily Dewey source their tea directly from farmers, and because they're not relying on middlemen, they can offer most drinks for around $4, a much lower price point than other cafes. The menu is short and sweet: matcha served with or without milk, hojicha lattes, espresso drinks, and a handful of non-matcha teas. (Among the non-matcha teas is the prized duck shit oolong, which according to some legends, was intentionally mislabeled by tea farmers to ward off potential thieves. Contrary to the name, it’s honey-like, toasty, and delicious.) Read the full story by Katherine Chew Hamilton at the link in bio.

A NEW bakery specializing in Korean salt bread is opening very soon in Portland! @ponto.pdx will serve eight rotating flavors of salt bread per day. Hailed by many as the next great competitor to the croissant, salt bread consists of a simple yeasted dough wrapped around a log of butter. As it bakes, the butter melts, leaving behind what many call a “butter hole” as the butter creates a crispy, glossy fried bottom. “When I tried salt bread in Korea, I remember thinking, ‘This is it,’ because it’s very simple yet deeply comforting to me,” says Ponto owner Saerom Chang. “It’s crispy, soft, buttery, warm, and grounding.” Full story by Katherine Chew Hamilton at the link in bio. #saltbread #portland #portlandoregon #pdx #bakery

Excited to be co-leading this @pedalpaloozapdx ride with friends as part of @solidaritycyclingcrew in collaboration with @cyclehomies on Sunday, July 27. We’re collecting donations for two immigration nonprofits in Portland. Most importantly, this is an opportunity to come out and show solidarity, with speakers kicking off the ride and vendors to help us celebrate at the end. Hope to see you there.
