Another element of Fantastic Four I had the chance to design under the direction of the amazing @kasfarahani was the vessel Galactus uses to arrive on earth! Its role is quite short in the movie, but a lot of efforts were put into giving it “Death Star-like” details all the while keeping an impactful silhouette.
The design of Galactus was done by the great @ryan_meinerding_art !

This images were the first ones I had the chance to work on when I was brought on Fantastic Four: First Steps! Production Designer @kasfarahani wanted to get as close as possible to the style of Jack Kirby, so we tried to incorporate as much as possible of the bold shapes from his drawings into the architecture of the Worldship.

I was incredibly lucky to help bringing a lot of the interiors of Galactus’ Worldship to life, under the supervision of the great @kasfarahani !
Among the environments I worked on, the throne room was one of the most important, as it serves for the reveal of Galactus. This few keyframes were done especially to showcase his scale in relation to the Fantastic Four.

Before @conceptbyjosh worked his magic with the final illustrations, here’s a glimpse of the design process behind the Baxter Building featured in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Production Designer @kasfarahani had a very specific form in mind for the iconic headquarters of the superhero team. His original concept sketch (6) reveals the influences of 20th Century Modernist architects Niemeyer and Saarinen with an uplifting dash of retrofuturism.
Kasra’s notes and drawovers (7) are visible on the progress views of the concept model as we refined the forms and added the details required by the film’s script. It’s a special privilege to work directly with the Production Designer in the early weeks of the making a movie, before the whirlwind rush of production starts.
Image (8) shows the orthographic views of the final concept model that was handed off to Josh and the VFX teams. It was created in Modo as a subdivision surface due to the complexity and subtle transitions of the forms. Rendered in Lumen.
Fantastic 4 - Here is early concept art showing retro future version of Times Square, NYC. The prelim 3D model was done by set designer, Laura Miller in the UK.
