From My “Lola’s” Tiny Living Room in the Philippines to the Pages of British Vogue.
When i made this design/sample with my team, we were sitting on the floor of my grandma’s house in Danao, Cebu Philippines. No grand studio nor professional setup, no big budget. Just our hands, some fabric, and a whole lot of heart. That little house, old, worn but full of love, became our workshop. My sanctuary when i visit my hometown. We obviously had no plan for the veil to be “famous”, we just wanted it to be beautiful.
Just the year prior, i made one of the scariest decisions of my life.. i quit my job and poured almost all of my savings into starting my business. No backup plan. Just a dream, a LOT of prayer, and belief that i had something meaningful to create.
As a Filipino immigrant, i carry my roots everywhere i go. That veil became more than just a piece of fashion - it’s a symbol of where i come from, what i believe in, and the risks i was willing to take to build something of my own. We had no idea where it would lead, we just gave it everything we had.
Fast forward to July this year, and that very veil is featured in British Vogue. It’s been a month but it sure still feels surreal and i’m only now starting to process it. But it’s also a powerful reminder that i want to share with anyone who’s building something from the ground up:
HARD WORK PAYS OFF! Even when you can’t see it yet. FAITH IN GOD AND IN YOURSELF MATTERS - even when you’re scared. And your background, your story isn’t something to overcome. It’s your power.
So if you’re a creative, a dreamer, who’s risking everything.. This is your sign. Keep going! The world might not clap right away. But trust me, what you’re building matters.
