A great cover is like a window to the soul of a book. A first glimpse into the world and the journey you embark on before you read a single word.
Looking at the final cover art for Our Dark Incantations makes my chest ache in the best way possible. @karinagiada has created the cover of my dreams and captured the world and Mira so perfectly.
I wanted a cover that could instantly communicate that it’s a gothic fantasy with a darker subject matter. Trauma is the core theme of the story. The thread that winds through the pages and pulls Mira Winters and Aidric Dawson closer and closer—until they’re in too deep.
What I adore about Karina’s art is the emotion it evokes in me. Mira’s longing stare into the night sky as she clutches her arm, arriving at Ivercrest University as her last hope catapults me right back into the story. A story I have been guarding in my heart for quite some time.
I hope you love this window into Our Dark Incantations’ soul as much as I do—and I hope you’ll embark on the journey on 10/20/26.

Behind the cover. ✨ I am still in disbelief that I got an opportunity to work on a cover for not just any book, but THE book. I have been such a huge fan of Wanda’s work for so long and it felt like a pinch-me moment when I was asked to bring her characters to life.
After almost 20+ different concepts, we decided to bring this one to reality. I knew from my previous project with Penguin that I wouldn’t be able to paint this one traditionally as one whole painting because of any editing we might have to do. So I ended up painting it in several parts. The background, the main character, the university - all the parts were done on different pieces of watercolor paper and stitched in procreate.
I am so pleased with how it turned out and I’m also so happy to see more traditional art being given a chance on book covers. I think there is something so special about knowing each brush stroke is human made and it makes opening this book upon its release that much more magical. ✨
