Its with great pleasure I’m able to share the first teaser to our short film “Mudbirds” on the occasion of it’s World Premiere at the @cphheadlinerfilmfestival Thursday 24th. July 16:40hrs. at @grandteatret . Tickets: https://bit.ly/4kD1E7c The film takes place during the Vietnam War and follows two helicopter pilots as they are confronted with what they have seen and done and question why they are there. Mudbirds was the very first film I wrote, produced and played a lead role in. We began shooting in 2009. I was at drama school and wanted some practical experience and showreel material based on the notion of “putting my money where my mouth” is. As, how could I expect others to bet on me if I wasn’t willing to bet on myself first? I made every mistake a new filmmaker can make and learned a lot! I’m sure most other filmmakers can relate. However, what also happened was the edit taking 2 years of work without being completed and then vanishing. I tried for years to find out what had happened to it. Many years later, after moving from London - via Paris - to Copenhagen, I had all but given up on the project until the most surprising of coincidences meant I was able to regain some of the footage. Following, it took me numerous years to find a dedicated team to help me bring the project to its conclusion in late 2023. Old formats, file organisation, etc. meant it was no easy task! Mudbirds does not represent where I am as an actor or filmmaker now, but it does illustrate the moment I - and many on the original team got their start and how much can be gained and learned in friendships and knowledge from finding your tribe of likeminded creatives who all push to finish something worthwhile, together. I will forever remember and be grateful to everyone who joined and helped on this journey. The sword shall pass to younger hands, From father to son, to son, to son. Yet I dread the day it joins the grave, Never again to see the sun. Not that I despise the peace to come, But fear a world that comes undone; For some new tool, far worse to face, Shall take the sword's forsaken place. As I put this video together I noticed the same sword kept returning, even though there'd been many to choose from on the day of filming. Combine with Matt Maeson's song All My Wars, it inspired a montage of inner struggle and the question of 'to soldier through' even if it meant for generations to come. For what if the day we put the sword away for good, is actually the day something worse has taken its place? A metaphor for holding on to something in fear of change being for the worse... Thus we might never find peace. It inspired the poem you read above.

🎙️ ‘MUDBIRDS’ KAN STREAMES NU 🎙️ Mudbirds spilles i dag i @grandteatret ifm @cphheadlinerfilmfestival og det er nu denne 6 numres EP’ tur til at komme ud og leve! Da jeg begyndte at begive mig ud på min rejse, som komponist til diverse kortfilm, var det relativt svært at finde projekter hvor der manglede en komponist/musik. På en Facebook gruppe for filmentusiaster der søgte Crew til (for det meste) kortfilms produktioner, fandt jeg et oplæg for Mudbirds. De manglede vidst heller ikke en komponist, men jeg prøvede alligevel at skrive til oplæggets forfatter - @karimtheilgaard - om der nu ikke alligevel manglede lidt musik. Karim var sgu super cool for efter en snak på Messenger var han med på ideen om at give mig mulighed for en rolle som komponist på Mudbirds, som var i sit postproduktions stadie. Det var det fedeste at høre for en up and coming komponist uden det mest prangende CV eller egentlige erfaring! Jeg arbejdede tæt sammen med Karim omkring skabelsen af musikken og det både overraskede og imponerede mig hvor åben han var for at der blev eksperimenteret med balancen mellem sound design og egentligt musik, og at musikken rent faktisk gerne måtte fylde i lydbilledet og tage front karakter. This was made even more special as 2025 marks the 150th. anniversary of Danish author Hans Christian Andersen’s death upon whose fairy tales the film is based on - but in a much, much darker way like you’ve never seen before! Det tomme rum imellem os @theemptyspacebetweenusfilm er endelig ude i Ekko short list. Det tager kun 5 min. at se den korte film - og please, glem ikke at stemme på os, så vi kan gå videre til top 10-listen. 🙏🏽 Lidt om filmen: “I et tomt rum kæmper psykologen Søren med sig selv. I tavshed presses han mod det sted, som ingen vender tilbage fra. Drøm og virkelighed, fortid og fremtid flyder sammen. Hører nogen hans tavse skrig?” Jeg skrev denne historie, efter en ven fortalte mig, at han led af depression og begyndende selvmordstanker. En, som jeg aldrig ville forestille mig det om, da han altid var i godt humør. Den samtale talte til mit hjerte for ligesom ham, er jeg, som folk kender mig også altid i godt humør, men jeg har også tidligere lidt af depression og angst, hvilket endda er et meget svært emne for mig at tale åbent om i dag. Ikke desto mindre har vi desværre mistet én, vi kendte til selvmord. Ingen så det komme - Ingen så det komme. 🥺 Så da jeg besluttede mig for at lave denne film, var et af mine mål forhåbentlig at hjælpe andre mennesker derude, der i stilhed lider af psykisk sygdom. Så vi alle kan rette mere opmærksomhed på dem omkring os, genkende tegn og symptomer, og give støtte før det er for sent. ❤️🥺 Tak af hele mit hjerte til alle, der har været dybt involveret i dette projekt og fik det til at ske. ❤️🥹 Nick (co-instruktør) og August (co-producer.), sprang med mig ind i dette projekt med så meget passion. Vi fik det til at lykkes! Tusind tak! Rudi!!! Du leverede endnu en fantastisk præstation. Da jeg skrev denne karakter, havde jeg dig i tankerne.
