In this opera, three individuals are trapped inside a giant whale, and they must decide whether or not they should escape this new home. Brenn and Brown use this context to explore questions of birth, death, and decay.

BROOKLYN! Two nights from now (Thursday Nov 14), don’t miss composer and multi-instrumentalist Kyle Brenn’s exclusive pre-release concert at @shapeshifterlab , where he’ll be joined by an ace group of musicians to perform his debut album ‘the shape of a child’ in its entirety.
The magic of musical theater, and Brenn’s own grounding in it, emerges right from the start, but the recording (available this Friday on all streaming platforms) also offers hints of a multi-directional journey, coalescing into a vivid, action-packed listening experience where a diversity of genres — classical, experimental pop, electro-acoustic soundscapes and even a taste of chillwave — ebb and flow together around Brenn’s intensely personal lyrics of longing, uncertainty, wonder and redemption.
