She gets it DONE. With a smile, and with the best snacks. * Alan Muraoka: director and star of See Us Coming Together. As a director, he is calm, caring and confident. As an actor, he brings love and humor to everything he does. For me, he is the heart of the whole special. * Liz Hara: writer of See Us Coming Together and the creator of Ji-Young. It was important to both of us that Ji-Young was loud and took up space. And in the special, she found a way to address the racism we as AA's have experienced while also making it a celebration of AAPI diversity and community. * Everyone of these brilliant, beautiful people have my heart forever. * See Us Coming Together premieres on HBO Max and PBS on Thanksgiving Day!! 1: So, real talk... on the morning of my first full shoot day on #NoraFromQueens we learned about the Atlanta shootings targeting Asian women. I cried in my trailer, trying to put my hurt, rage and fear into words. What it boiled down to was that no matter what we do or who we try to be, there will always be those who wish to destroy us, control us, use us, exoticize us, other us, erase us, hate us.  But I can't tell you how healing it was to put on ToeKnee's hideous skin and maniacal persona (so different from the petite, hypersexualized, shrinking violet stereotype) then tromp around making fart jokes with ultimate the mold-breaker @awkwafina  on a show teeming with Asian American talent in all areas. It felt like flipping the biggest middle finger to those who would put us in a labeled box.  Like #$%* you, we will be whoever the HELL we want to be.  This was an all around amazing experience. Thank you to everyone involved! (Including @welcomemattv for hooking this up!) *** 2: That walk I do on "I'll be going I GUESS!" is FULLY based on my brother @thisisvictorkim modeling new clothes on Christmas morning.

The love and support that this little girl and I have gotten in just the past few days has been... Honestly I don't know that I'll ever have the right words. For now I'll say that I've heard so many stories from Asian Americans this week about growing up feeling like an other in their own country and I want to say, I see you and your story is mine too. The responsibility I feel to this character and this mission goes gut deep and my hope is that our kids will grow up finding nothing news-worthy about seeing themselves represented on TV.  Hwaiting! ♥️🎸🎶 (📸: @janetskim )

The grid updating continues... @koreanamericanstory celebrated 15 years of telling, preserving and uplifting the Korean American voice by honoring 3 absolute gifts to our community at this years gala: Food writer @ericjoonho (NYTimes) , show runner @soozhugh (Pachinko) and singer @kevinwoo_official (Kpop Demon Hunters). I returned this year as auctioneer, did a little variety act with my gala pala @epopski and closed out the night with a karaoke sing along to Golden with an actual Saja Boy (and a mini Huntrix). Love being part of this community and the work they do! 🇰🇷💪
