Back in January, @johntieng and I taught a short sword 2v1 style fight for our advanced class on Sundays as a month long project. We thought it would be fun to conceptualize the fight with shields as well, and ended up creating a Gladiator style setup for this Pre Vis.

Story time: I was flying back to Virginia and randomly noticed there was a jujitsu tournament around the same time I'd be in town. I had never competed in a jujitsu tournament before, and it had been a solid 13 years since I had competed in any sort of competition..but I just said fuck it. I signed up to do some strangling.

I woke up early as hell, borrowed my mom's car, drove 2 hours, showed up alone to VA Beach, made weight (another thing I hadn't done in 13 years lol), and did my thing.
.
I competed in White Belt Gi and took home a silver. I then competed in Blue Belt No Gi and brought home the bronze.
.
I learned the points in jujitsu can be confusing and I should've learned them better instead of just hunting for submissions the entire match.. but what can I say, I took the death by the sword approach. Kill or be killed.

I'm so thankful I decided to jump in and do it. I learned so much about myself and had an insanely great experience. Everyone I competed against was extremely supportive and friendly. Win or lose it was always smiles, compliments, and trading techniques after the match. Honestly couldn't recommend it enough.

Huge shout out to @hugh_gregoryfitzgerald and my team over at 87N. Wrestling had been such a huge part of my life for so long and not competing or training in it anymore left a piece of me feeling empty. Once I was invited to train I instantly felt that piece of me become whole again. So thank you 🙏🙏

Halloween is one of my favorite times of year and as an independent filmmaker the horror genre has always appealed to me creatively. This weird project was made purely for the fun of creating and I couldn’t be happier with how it came together. Big thanks to the friends/crew who helped on this one.
