Through Deep House, never-ending illegal raves, the true soundtrack to the Criminal Justice Bill protests — DiY were one of the pivotal forces forging what we know as club culture in the UK today. “Liberation through fun”, collectivism, and refusing to accept the pre-packaged copy machines spitting out song after song that mainstream dance music constantly forced down our throats.

Euphoria, deepness, and unpredictability form a perfect twisted concoction in her arsenal: a style that can lock a room into hypnotic groove one moment, then flip it into full-blown emotional release the next.
Nothing feels overly signposted or safe; instead, her sets unfold with a kind of controlled volatility, always a step away from the expected but never losing their grip on the floor.

We turn 9 tomorrow and want to shine a light on our headliner - a founding member of one of the most important collectives in UK dance music history - DiY’s Grace Sands.
Grace Sands co-founded DiY Soundsystem in Nottingham in the late 80s - a crew who took deep house from illegal free parties in fields to Castlemorton Common, Café del Mar and stages across the world, staying fiercely independent and true to their roots throughout. Described by Tony Wilson as “culturally the most dangerous people in the UK”, DiY helped shape what house could sound and feel like in this country, and Grace was right at the heart of it. These days she holds down a residency at Adonis - London’s beloved queer underground institution - and has graced stages at Panorama Bar, NYC Downlow at Glastonbury, Houghton and many more. A firm favourite of ours - one standout set in particular on Block9’s Genosys stage at Glastonbury in 2024 is consistently revisited in chats amongst ourselves. It was special. See slide 4 from our own phone archives playing a DiY classic and NSR favourite. It’s a real honour and pleasure to have a DJ with such history, rooted so deeply in our scene, joining us for our 9th birthday.

After a sellout first release Slam Duncs takes over Gaffe on the 3rd of July to celebrate the label launch.
Duncan Thomas will be joined by artists and friends alike, making this one a family affair. The wonderful Millie Watts joins the crew bringing no doubt ocean deep house.
Alongside her is none other than scene-defining dance music icon Grace Sands, followed by non top party starter, and all day vibe bringer, Alec Falconer.
Duncan will also be bringing his new live show for a test drive, vroom vroom. So get the Ubers on standby, and schedule a cruise up to groove city (Tottenham) on the 3rd.
