FINALLY our Tahu vs Tarakava animation is complete!! I started this shot back in September 2024, and in our precious little free time, we managed to slowly iterate on this and put this awesome shot together.
For the 2D FX, I used a combination of @callipeg.app & @affinity to draw on top of the rendered frames. They’re not movie-quality FX but I like how hand drawn they look; a good reminder that human beings made this shot! 😁 I also used @procreate Dreams to make the 2D blocking pass on the last slide, and it was helpful for figuring out how to adjust the timing of everything.

At long last, our Gali animation is complete! This was a fun challenge to elevate a relatively simple animation of Gali walking forward with lots of FX elements, from 2D lightning to a violent rainstorm. We learned a lot while making this one! The amazing model and rig was a breeze to animate, and this was elevated by the incredible sound design and environment / lighting design💥
For the lightning, I drew this in @procreate Dreams to animate this by hand! It was surprisingly easy to set up and I learned a lot about 2D FX that I didn’t know before.

This might have been the most ambitious shot I’ve ever been a part of. This was made for @iconicstills ‘s new Artbook trailer. He told me he wanted a hero shot of the six Toa Metru, which I immediately volunteered for. Getting to animate the amazing models and rigs from @justframbo was an absolute dream come true.
For the animation, I wanted this to feel like an Avengers group shot, while giving every character a little moment to shine. It was fun showcasing each characters personality. Animating six characters at once and not having them overstep each other is tricky!😵💫
We wanted to do something special for this one, so we opted for an analog CRT treatment to give it those dystopian, Metru Nui vibes. As if you were watching this on your TV in the early 2000s. This treatment was courtesy of the incredible @mr_jackio . Pinch to zoom in on those amazing analog details!📺
Then @thenarahproject brought it home with some world class sound design! It sounds metallic and crazy but still true to the feel of Bionicle characters. 🔊

Kopaka, Toa of Ice, is ready to face off against the evil Makuta❄️
This animation was so much fun to make because I got to collaborate with some truly talented artists. Bringing these characters back to life from the depths of our childhood memories is a special full circle moment.
For the animation, I tried utilizing some stop motion techniques in addition to a more pushed, anime-inspired movement. Combined with an amazing character rig and some seriously great lighting/sound design, I’m so thrilled with how this came out! 😁🗡️🛡️
