”There had been plans and expectations, but this belonged to neither. And yet it felt like exactly what we needed—not what we had asked for. Somewhere beyond the walls, the city carried on, muffled and distant. She asked if we could go for a ride, and keep the windows open like yesterday. For the first time in days, time seemed to loosen its grip. Afterwards, I counted: there were 53 days of summer.”

Great news! Our photography publication ”Harjun pieni monumentti” received an honorary mention as one of the most beautiful books of the year 🙏💫✨
”A LARGE FORMAT for a small building. The generous page size does full justice to JUSSI HELLSTEN'S accomplished photographs: the viewer steps into the world of the images and begins to see anew a building they may have passed countless of times before. The poetic images and the dreaminess of the transparent paper are sharpened by the bold typography and layout.”

“Harjun pieni monumentti” (A Small Monument of Harju) is, true to its name, a small–yet–significant work about the red brick building rising next to Dallapé Park in Vallila, Helsinki.
Its layered history — from mortuary to youth centre — is examined as a paused moment through photographs, alongside an essay by art historian Riitta Nikula, shedding light on the building’s past and cultural significance.

“Harjun pieni monumentti” on nimensä mukaisesti pieni–suuri teos Helsingin Vallilassa, Dallapénpuiston laidalla kohoavasta punatiilisestä rakennuksesta.

“Iceland is one of the least forested countries in Europe. It is estimated that Iceland was once covered by forests up to 40%, but now only about 1.5% remains. As part of its goal to become carbon neutral by 2040, Iceland is focusing on reforestation. However, these efforts are hindered by a lack of resources, overgrazing, and concerns about potential negative impacts on tourism—one of Iceland’s largest sources of income.
Tourism in Iceland has surged dramatically, with visitor numbers having quintupled over the past decade and expected to continue rising. Many countries do not include emissions caused by tourism in their national greenhouse gas inventories; instead, these emissions are covered under a special arrangement by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), rather than the original terms set out in the Kyoto Protocol.
The project was made using a modified camera to capture digital infrared wavelengths. Infrared photography is used in forestry for identifying tree species and assessing forest health.”

The sauna is not merely a place, but a multisensory world: the warmth on the skin, the touch of humidity, the dim light, the sounds and the scents. This series, created together with Kyro, seeks to capture that layered feeling. A documentary approach allowed us to move beyond conventional commercial imagery and towards something more authentic — almost poetic in its simplicity.
