"FLOWER.JPG"
A collaborative capsule collection between myself &
@superbloomhouse including incense, an incense holder, tee & zine.
When the
@superbloomhouse team approached me and asked what kind of object or project I'd love to see brought to life, I immediately thought of incense after tossing around ideas with my friend
@raihan_ @unknownvariableco over the years, specifically a scent that was inspired by my wood-filled Chicago studio where I spend so much of my time.
With the incense as the centerpiece, an obvious next step was to find a world-class ceramicist to work with on an incense holder. I reached out to David Kim
@dtkceramics and we hit it off after a visit to his studio to discuss ideas. The vessel was inspired by much of the incredible handmade dinnerware David has made for some of the country's best restaurants, a palm-sized bowl with a mushroom-shaped platform "stem" inside normally used as a surface for a piece of food, then surrounded in by garnish in the 'moat'. It seemed a great translation for incense sticks and provided me some super fun surface areas to work the art onto. Kiln-safe water slide decals were produced and hand-cut & applied to all 50 vessels.
The core artwork I made for this was, per usual, super colorful and quite busy. In order to translate it to a t-shirt I knew I could only go to
@jus.studios &
@whaltho_ who masterfully broke it down to a 10-color simulation print on my favorite LA Apparel 1801 Pigment Wash Dye 'Vintage Black' tees.
The whole process was documented and ultimately culminated into a zine (free!) which you'll see here in the post.
