"Incarnadine is not merely an important Indigenous jazz album. It belongs to that rare category of recordings capable of altering the broader understanding of what jazz history has been, and what its future may become. Albums like this do not simply accompany history. They enter it." - Thierry De Clemensat, Paris Move This review... is one of the most beautifully written reviews I think I have ever read. And what's wild is that he is writing about our album! 🥲 Thank you so much to Thierry De Clemensat for listening to, enjoying, and really understanding Incarnadine. The debut album from the Julia Keefe Indigenous Big Band is OUT NOW! Listen via streaming and/or buy the CD at JuliaKeefe.com! The album will also be available for purchase on vinyl on May 29th! JKIBB releases its long-awaited debut album, Incarnadine, is out now via Outside in Music. One of the only jazz big bands in the world comprised exclusively of Native and Indigenous musicians, the 16-piece ensemble is led by celebrated vocalist Julia Keefe (Nez Perce) and features a remarkable assembly of Indigenous artists from across Indian Country. Incarnadine draws its title from the Shakespearean word meaning "to redden," and the album functions as history, protest, and celebration in equal measure, illuminating a vibrant and often overlooked tradition of Indigenous improvised music. The program spans compositions made famous by 20th-century Indigenous jazz luminaries such as Mildred Bailey (Coeur d'Alene) and Jim Pepper (Kaw/Mvskoke), alongside new works from within the band itself. Marc Cary, Chappaquiddick Wampanoag, Piano Mali Obomsawin, Abenaki of Odanak First Nation, Bass and Vocals Edward Littlefield, Lingít, Drums Magdalena Abrego, Guitar (track 3 only) Kalí Rodriguez, Taíno, Trumpet Giovanni Martinez, Yaqui, Trumpet Delbert Anderson, Diné, Trumpet Chuck Copenace, Ojibwe, Trumpet Quinn Carson, Apache Tribe of Oklahoma and Kiowa Tribe, Trombone Christopher Gonzales, Mestizo, Trombone Wade Demmert, Lingít and Oglala Lakota, Bass Trombone Rogan Tinsley, Kanaka Moali, Alto Saxophone and Vocals Asa Peters, Mashpee Wampanoag, Alto Saxophone and Vocals Adam Lamoureux, Muskegon (Swampy Cree), Tenor Saxophone Michael Gutierrez, Comanche and Cheyenne-Arapaho, Tenor Saxophone Orion White, Nez Perce and Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma, Baritone Saxophone Julia Keefe, Nez Perce, Director, Vocals and Background Vocals Produced by Julia Keefe & Quinn Carson Recording Engineering by Brain Saia Additional Tracking by Quinn Carson Mix Engineering by Ken Rich Mastering Engineering by Dave Darlington Incarnadine was recorded through the support of The Prior Performing Arts Center at the College of the Holy Cross. #newmusicfriday #albumrelease #jazz #indigenous #bigband

✨Dreams do come true 🎶 On May 28th, I will be opening for my musical shero, the incandescent Bonnie Raitt!!!! I have been inspired by Bonnie, her music, and her beautiful energy since I was a tiny wee child. Genuinely, “I want to be Bonnie Raitt when I grow up” has been my mantra since I was about 8 years old. Almost 30 years later and that mantra is just as true now as it was then. I am beyond excited this dream of opening for Bonnie is coming true! Joining me on stage at the Fox Theatre in Spokane is my dear friend and brilliant guitarist Tim Jago 🎸 I can’t wait to welcome Bonnie Raitt to Mildred Bailey Country on May 28th in Spokane!!! Himacus Qeci’yew’yew (thank you so much), Bonnie and BRHQ, for this beautiful gift. I will cherish it always! @bonnieraittofficial @timjago #womeninmusic #womeninginjazz #nativesinjazz #sistersinsong #dreamsdocometrue
