seeing Alanis Morissette live was definitely a SXSW highlight. before Outkast turned me into a hip hop head with ATLiens I spent most of 1995 jamming this album lol
James Bernard, former co-owner of The Source and co-founder of XXL, was a brilliant writer and a huge inspiration to many of your favorite hip-hop journalists. His work went way beyond the music, focusing on issues of social justice and politics, and he famously took a principled stand for journalistic integrity.
I'm glad I was able to spend some time with him before he passed, and sad I won't be able to oversee opposition research for his presidential campaign as he suggested. I hope I can make him proud with my future journalism endeavors. RIP James π’

I dusted off my giant 200-600 lens for most of these shots, which is better for long distances but not as great in low light as the beautiful Sony 70-200, and have some mixed feelings about the results
