The Frog
*cw: themes of family death, climate disaster.
First project of the new year- a foray into stop motion animation using only construction paper and black pen, based loosely around a dream I had in 2018.
448 frames. 122 individual paper pieces. 4 days of work between writing, creating the pieces, shooting, and editing. A lot of years of thinking about it before actually doing it.

Happy trans day of visibility! In light of all the terrible news and overwhelming barrage against trans folks, Julian and I wanted to combine forces to bring in some joy and positivity. We’ve been talking a lot lately about healing in community with other trans ppl and realized we couldn’t do that without talking abt our friendship.
Julian: I spent a long time with a baseline assumption of loneliness in my transition. There’s a trope of transmasc folks as the “lone wolf” type archetype, finding safety and strength through a certain measure of isolation. Through the course of my friendship with Mars, I’ve been able to find solidarity in places where I thought I stood apart, strength in vulnerabilities that I had previously thought of as weakness, and community where I used to be alone. The world is a lot easier to face when you’ve got a pal who gets it
Mars: Being trans can feel really lonely sometimes. It’s been so healing to transition alongside a fellow transmasc buddy like Julian. From all the late night walks and talks, a cursed summer in Dallas, to now living in our apartment— transitioning in community with you has been a definite highlight of my life. We can’t compare our journeys because they’ve been so original to us, but I know we both can’t imagine having done it alone. And my therapist thinks our friendship is sweet lol
