Feeling lucky to celebrate another trip around the sun with a visit to the Emerald Esle. Today’s visit to the ancient monastic city of Glendlough provided a chance to follow in the steps of my mom’s spiritual pilgrimage to Ireland in 2015. Her presence is still here. Also, the weather changes at least three times an hour.

My favorite thing about dinner around my Nana’s kitchen table was the opportunity to adorn my meal with a few sprinkles of salt & pepper. The shakers on hand rotated, representing different places my grandparents traveled. From metal orbs from Japan, wooden maracas from Cuba, and little ceramic cottages from England, each set had a beautiful story and taught me to be curious about the world and find the beauty of art in small, everyday experiences.
It was a fun challenge to create my own set for @helloyowie Salt & Pepper Shaker Show. They’re made entirely from repurposed materials, including a few textiles I inherited from my Nana. They may not be functional, but they’re full of stories. Come on out to the show on Friday and I’ll tell you more! :)

Say hello to our April Over the Mantle Artist, Julie Woodard! 🏔️☀️🏠🪡
Julie is a Philadelphia-based multimedia artist and educator. Using salvaged textiles, found objects, pigments, and thread, she creates impressionistic landscapes, multimedia installations, functional sculptures, and wearable pieces that convey her passion for nature, memory, and creative reuse. Current incarnations pay tribute to her late mom and repurpose family heirlooms, as well as feature vintage goods, cutting room remnants, broken furniture, and salvaged scraps. The work you’ll see featured this month at Capricorn incorporates elements of printmaking, botanical dyeing, collage, applique, embroidery, quilting, ceramics, and soft sculpture.
This is Julie’s second time at Capricorn! Come in to see them in person 👀
