“How does scent translate into a musical scale?” Participatory Performance + Installation: Melodies (memories) Unheard, Futures Forgotten by Juice Cui Exhibition hall “Through the Fog of Uncertainty” An experimental live sound and scent performance exploring nostalgia, identity, and perception through an immersive multisensory environment. The audience is surrounded by an evolving landscape of shifting fragrances and a live-generated soundscape created from found and resonant objects. Drawing on experimental sound practices and scent research, the work blurs the boundaries between memory and imagination, presence and absence. Through sensory distortion and immersion, it invites reflection on how personal and collective narratives are formed, fragmented, and reimagined. Veldze, entry from Bruninieku iela 25, Riga @veldze.radosarupnica May 6 - 10 🎬Check out P6 the video captured by @chenchiayi_art 📷 P1, P3, P4, P5, P7 photos captured by @fuzzy_medium 📷 P7 above captured by @_virse_paula_ 🌹Special thanks to our great creator @sandrismurins who has made my life easier! #scent #scentfestival #scentwork #scentoftheday #scentart

Have you ever heard the story of The Last Emperor? Glad that the work The Last Emperor is back again, two years after the original immersive puppetry! This time, it returns in a puppet format as part of The Motive of the Puppeteer, presented by @fringeartsbath from 22 May to 6 June 2026. “In the long run, we are all dead.” The puppets are from — and represent — Juice Cui’s multi-sensory puppet show The Last Emperor, which explores the tumultuous life of Puyi, the final emperor of China’s Qing Dynasty. The production unfolds Puyi’s story across five distinct chapters: his early years as a powerless feudal emperor (1906–1912); his attempts at restoration during the Republican era (1912–1931); his role as a puppet ruler during World War II (1931–1945); his involvement in the Chinese Civil War (1945–1949); and finally, his life as an ordinary citizen in post-1949 New China. The show portrays Puyi as a man caught in the whirlwind of history, struggling against forces beyond his control. The puppet is made entirely from recycled materials, and its form is based on archival images and photographs of Puyi. I would also like to express my deepest thanks to The Last Emperor TEAM, Dr. Annie Goh @annie_g0h and LCC Sound Arts @lccsoundarts , as that is where my theatrical dreams first began. The Motive of the Puppeteer Curated by Ömer Ekmel Kara @oek1998 Venue: Old Glassworks BA1 5BW “Not all strings are visible; not all motives are apparent; not all control is intentional — or are they?” Puppeteers such as Jim Henson and Sergey Obraztsov present a familiar image: a visible hand guiding movement, with seemingly clear intentions—storytelling, performance, and craft. But what if the puppeteers themselves are also subject to unseen forces?

How does scent translate into a musical scale? What is the relationship between fragrance, the colour wheel, and musical scales? For example: Rose 🌹 → Pink → D♭ Major The scent is settled— where is the sound? Come and join me for a participatory performance tomorrow at approximately 20:00. Melodies (memories) Unheard, Futures Forgotten by Juice Cui Veldze, entry from Bruninieku iela 25, Riga @veldze.radosarupnica May 6 - 10 Participant of the Scent + Art Festival Performance + exhibition: Through the Fog of Uncertainty There would be free samples to take away only tomorrow!;) #scent #scentfestival #scentwork

Not Foley Not Music Not Sound Effects Just Playing without thinking At least some form of documentation proves that I’m still making weird experiments 😉. This is also an early notice that WE (me and my music partner @santilowe ) will be officially sharing news about our interactive concert in London very soon, curated by @xiaommmmmmin__ . Although there is still a long way to go (I haven’t written any new complicated pieces this year tbh😅👍)

There are moments I feel overwhelmed—disappointed in the world, disconnected from what’s happening, unsure where I position myself. Sometimes my research feels distant from reality, and that frustration lingers. But maybe the answer isn’t to chase what’s expected—maybe it’s to return to what I care about, what I love, where I am rooted. To allow distraction, to drift. I spent a few days at the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Centre @zeehondencentrum in Lauwersoog, surrounded by sick seals, witnessing a release back into the sea. I felt incredibly lucky to be there, to listen, to document, to immersed in, even without understanding the language. For a moment, things felt quiet, and enough. 📷: Me and Simon

Thank you for joining us at the last two sound art performances of Embracing, Unravelling and Smashing the Fantasy at White Space Gallery (@whitespace76 ), curated by the wonderful Just Art Collective (@justart_collective ). In this special edition, we introduced a new work, Cosmic or Reality: a structured improvisation for cello, melodica, and steel tongue drum (P2). Embracing, Unravelling and Smashing the Fantasy is a sound art performance featuring DIY clay mask flute, handmade accordion, DIY electronics and synthesizers, performed by Juice in collaboration with cellist Santi Lowe. The work reimagines nine Western fairytales and Eastern folktales, offering an immersive audio journey that unsettles nostalgia and invites new interpretations. These stories evoke compassion, valour, imagination, sacrifice, curiosity, and transformation, forming a fluid tapestry of cultural and moral depth. 📷: @jason_liiin @jennifer.jiang_jiajie #sound #soundmindsoundbody #soundart
