THERE IS, ON THIS LAND, THAT WHICH MAKES LIFE WORTH LIVING. MOTHERS STANDING ON A FLUTES THREAD. AND THE INVADERS' FEAR OF MEMORIES. THE MOTHER OF ALL BEGINNINGS, THE MOTHER OF ALL ENDS. HER NAME WAS PALESTINE, HER NAME BECAME PALESTINE. 'ON THIS LAND' . MAHMOUD DARWISH

juha. is another of the stable of prodigies come to be associated with glitch.cool. Interweaving ambient, hyperglitch, neo-classical, their music is uniquely positioned upon a border of stillness and destruction. Extremely attentive to sparse, piano-driven melody, they position this contemplative use of instrumentation with off-kilter glitchwise drum patterns inspired by hip-hop and the wider spectrum of bass music. Their debut full-length, 2023’s unreason and empty space, saw juha. entwining hyperglitch’s most exigent venture into apocalyptic sonics, counterposing a stuttering starkness, the imaginary of decay and lostness, with an urgent intimacy. Theirs is a music that has long seemed about hope and retrievable space, where glitch is not a playful rupture as much as an emotional opening in the world. juha. is often thinking about the now and its environment, repositioning hyperglitch as a way of illustrating the alienated availabilities of the everyday. Of seeing a futurity beneath the breakage and beauty of the worlds we all walk. With a vault of new music awaiting release, juha.’s Birmingham debut is a performance by an artist who highlights equally glitch music’s operatic sublimity and its most revisionary closeness. juha.’s performance on May 16 will be accompanied by live visuals from glitch.cool co-founder sunnk. The visuals accompanying this post are a preview of the set to come. Anyone who has seen sunnk play live is well-familiar with the awe and magnitude of his visuals. Cerebral, alien, perfervid, they are the industrial, molecular glyphs of an otherworldy acrolect and its fluctuating bodies. Nigh-on inscrutable, this is their access to the alchemy of glitch. Intoxicating and hypnotic, they allow an audience entrance into the visual language of glitch, wherein an understanding of the magic and importance of this music is all the more emphasised. With February 6 imminent, @glitch.cool affiliate juha. joins Realist radio for a mix tracing the producer’s entwined motifs of emotionality & disruption. juha.’s project has long seemed to be about passion and space, where glitch is not a rupture but an opening of the music… explosions in a vacuum, quietly dissipating a new imaginary where musical structure is dissimulated as simulation of the world itself. It’s of kindling and glimmers, a music that is embryonic but blossoming enormity. Where the potentiating fizzles of glitch and flutters of percussion marry chordal feeling to position hyperglitch as essentially a thinking on the now.   juha’s Realist mix encompasses lo-fi jazz, chamber pop and the triumphant strains of something alike breaking math, then in its second half envelops its persistently emotive voices with implacable, unplaceable bass. Unplaceable seems the right word for the unfixably shifting nature of their mix. An unpredictability that confounds categorisation. The music then uncapturable seems alien. The alien is not the extraterrestrial but the reality of the terrestrial. The actual face of being. The everyday and the alien are never antithetical, simply two stages in a sequence of time. One of juha.’s exceptional skills is their insistent highlighting of an alienated alterity in the everyday. Their mix and their music constitute a continual exposure of the futurity laden below every surface and space. A futurity that is not hidden behind an actual but is the sensible force of everything to be seen.   juha. added - “This is a mix i made. It’s a combination of music that i love to listen to, and music that has inspired and influenced my recent body of work. I’ve always had a pretty eclectic taste in music, as you’ll hear. The things that made me love music, to begin with, are worlds apart from what inspires me, and what i make. I thought it’d be fun to lean into that. It’s pretty jarring. But these are some of the things that i love the most. I’ve also thrown in a few of my own tunes. These are recent works, some unfinished, and some unreleased. Some coming soon…. I hope you enjoy.” Realist Alive Radio - 6PM [GMT] art by @tybr_place
