Birth of Reggaeton!
El General did Te Ves Buena over the "Gal Yuh Good" riddim produced by Bobby Digital! Steelie & Cleevie also produced Fish Market Riddim which is Dem Bow by Shabba Ranks and Ellos Benia by Nando Boom!
In the 1980s, West Indian workers in Panama started translating Jamaican reggae to Spanish, creating a new genre called “reggae en español”. Artists like El General and Nando Boom were pioneers of this sound.
Fast forward:
I went to Jamaica for Reggae Sunsplash 1991. Shabba, Barrington, Papa San, Pinchers....
1990-91 I went to see Shabba at the Palladium with my bredren Marcos. Who opens up for Shabba??? None other than El General. 35-36 years ago was the beginning of Reggaeton. And I love reggae and my name is Tone! 😂
All jokes aside, I enjoyed Bad Bunny's performance staying home for the Super Bowl with mi Chilena 🇨🇱 @msdanimontiel and some of our kids! A lot went over my head, so I apprecialove the explanations the past few days from my people and some reels I follow. Caribbean is the true melting pot and it's a special place despite the over tourism and exploitation. The US can take a page from the Caribe playbook. Love and Blessings. Juggwise

Happy 85th birthday to my father the legend a.k.a. Rocco "Richie" Minervino. Thank you for everything you taught me and how you led by example. Can't wait to celebrate 85 years!!!! and of course, my father was born on the same date as Bob Marley so you know how that works. Respect to Robert Nesta Marley OM.

2. Sly & Robbie at BB Kings with Mykal Rose pon vocals. The closest thing to that amazing lineup from the early 80s Black Uhuru vibes. So incredible I had to go to....
3. The Saint in Asbury Park to see the same show. My Uncle Chris and I went. It was equally amazing!
Rest in Power to Robbie and now Sly has left us. They are "double handedly" responsible for a good majority of the reggae music we all have enjoyed for 7 decades. For real! 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, & 20s. Rest In Power to Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. Taxi Forever!
