Meet artist @ju.rowfarr @brightonfestival @artistsopenhouses @hanoverartstrail every weekend in May. Photographs by @robertwhitecolourphotopage Come for inspiration, conversation, and fabulous #affordableart. @ju.rowfarr says… I am a founder member of artists’ group Blast Theory @blasttheory and after thirty-two years left in 2023 to make my own work. This is my first Open House and a part of what I do. I write and publish Every month I run a ticketed event here in my home called The Wider Ranch Saloon, a gathering around an idea with nibbles and drinks. I sometimes invite other people in to lead them. April’s event was led by sound artist Simon James @thesimonsound about listening to homes and architecture and in June the event will be about somatics and experience a little of what it can be led by Clare Plumley - This month on Saturday May 30t, 6pm-8pm I will lead the event be about whimsy - there may be dancing or singing. Every two months lead Potluck at Blast Theory, a free event to release some of your creativity in a safe environment at Blast Theory studios in Portslade. This month we danced together, in July we will make shrines. You bring what you can of yourself along, a friend, something to share to eat. Maybe you make some creative connections, maybe you release some creative twinkle or maybe you have a night well spent. If you are interested to know more about any of the above or to start a conversation, please come find me. HAPPY INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY. What better way to celebrate than booking a free ticket to our dancing Pot Luck? 🪩 6-8PM, Wednesday 6 May 🪩 Next week we are going to learn a dance together. You don’t have to have a dancing bone in your body: only the desire to move, a shimmy, a strut or a sway. It’s all about you honouring yourself, however you show up. šŸ“ Blast Theory Studio šŸŽ« Free entry - book via the link in our bio šŸ¤” What is Pot Luck? šŸ¤” Pot Luck is our unique social club for creative people. Hosted at the Blast Theory studios in Portslade every two months and led by artist Ju Row Farr, Pot Luck events are a chance to try things out, meet new people, get inspired and find new ways to move forward. Pot Luck is designed to build confidence, develop skills and facilitate connections. You might be looking for inspiration, changing direction, or, at the end of a course, thinking about what’s next. You might have a strong creative twinkle that needs attention; you might be working on a project and need something else. All sorts of people come with all kinds of creative experiences. There are always new faces as well as regulars: we never know who will be in the room, and that’s part of what makes it exciting. 🧐 Why do you use a Pay What You Can model? 🧐 Pot Luck is free to attend and always will be. Blast Theory is a charity and each Pot Luck costs around Ā£800. If you’re able to make a donation, it helps us keep Pot Luck running. The guide on our checkout page will help you decide what feels right for your circumstances. There’s no wrong answer, no proof needed, and we understand your circumstances might change between events - that’s fine. But the idea is that those who can afford to give more help create space for those who can’t. #PotLuck #BrightonArtists #PortsladeCommunity #BrightonAndHoveEvents #BrightonAndHove

Event 3 Beyond The Spider (listening to houses together) This month’s Wider Ranch Saloon is with the wonderful sound artist Simon James. Wandering around my house you will quietly engage with the almost imperceptible that floats just out of reach and learn more about listening. I’ve been lucky enough to attend a few of Simon’s listening workshops and I am always inspired, stretched to feel how listening shows up for me and what other people reveal in his welcoming spaces. Check his work out @thesimonsound or on Places are limited and cost Ā£15, so please email me at [email protected] to book and I will send you all the details. It’s at my house in Hanover in Brighton. Very excited for this and hope to see some of you soon! Ju x

Saturday’s event was intimate and inspiring for me. I read three pieces. Artex is a piece about being in a new home overwhelmed with Artex - What Would Wes Anderson Do? The Fall is fragments for a short story about a medical archaeologist Nora, who can really read the stories and words of cadavers. Howling Wind And Singing Scaffolding is a response to a recording by @thesimonsound and a live mix. These wonderful drawings were made on the night by attending artist @vanessalawrencexx and music for Howling Wind And Singing Scaffolding @thesimonsound who will be leading the next monthly event in April - more to follow x

Join us next week for Resistance: Being An Artist In The World Today šŸ—“ļø 6-8pm, Wednesday 18 March 2026 šŸ“ Blast Theory Studio šŸŽ« Free entry How do you live in the world right now as an artist? Do you respond, resist, or quietly absorb? This Pot Luck is about what it means to make work in the current moment, and where the ā€˜political’ sits in what you do. We’ll explore different forms and starting points: what other artists are making directly in response to the times we’re in, where you find the political in your own practice, and how that might open up new ways of working. RSVP to our March Pot Luck by emailing [email protected]
