Hachette Australia presents ‘A Little Unwell’ by Kerry Jewell
.
Narrated by Jessica Stanley. @squaresoundstudio
.
A compelling, candid and darkly funny novel that explores the modern realities of our dysfunctional public health system, and the fragile human beings fighting to make it work.
.
AUDIO TEXT
I shine a light in Mrs Liu’s eyes. Pupils fixed and non-reactive to light. It takes several soft dabs to close her eyelids again. The left one sticks on her gummy eyeball like it’s winking at me. I listen on her chest. Only the familiar tinkle of miscellaneous internal fluids trickling down with gravity. No cardiac or breath sounds on auscultation. I ask her name. No response to verbal stimuli. I go to elicit a pain response. This is the most uncomfortable part of the post-death verification examination because it seems wrong to jam my fist into her breastbone to see if she wakes up. You got me, I’m not really dead. How hilarious am I?

Tonight’s show is SOLD OUT chickadees. You’ve only got three chances left to grab tickets before the fight’s over and the pit goes dark on Sunday.
“Bold and bodacious, why wouldn’t I start crowing about Year of the Rooster…? Year of the Rooster is theatre of the absurd on steroids, with larger-than-life characters that bring attitude” – The Blurb

Thank you Michael Brindley @stage_whispers for the fab review! Only eight more chances to catch Year of the Rooster at @fortyfivedownstairs 🧡
“Director Aldrich, her cast and her team weave together a seamless and coherent show in which every element – no matter how excessive, or how bizarre – works beautifully.“

Thank you @keithgow for the knockout review! Rooster returns tomorrow night to the @fortyfivedownstairs stage.
“Spinning Plates has a winner on their hands. Year of the Rooster is light on its feet, while spitting comical rejoinders and landing side-splitting blows. It’s silly, but it’s also a knock-out.”
