The women I’ve met while being a makeup artist, having hours and hours of conversations during their most important moments, while also sometimes carrying the weight of going through something else. That’s often the case, at least I find. Most women carry and nurture and guide and give so much. We often share parts of ourselves without knowing how it’ll be received but trusting that we’ll come back to ourselves regardless of what happens.
It’s so special to have the opportunity to be a sounding board, a voice of reason, a word of advice, a neutral opinion, a moment of distraction, a friend (some would say comedian….) to most of the women I meet. The day-to-day as a makeup artist is full of emotion and connection and closeness, in a relatively short timeframe.
I’d argue that it’s one of the most interesting yet rewarding careers given the scheduling, locations (often we work with what we’re given location wise), randomness of who’s gonna sit in your chair, and the planning/creative collaboration that goes into it. Both the client and artist have to land on a look and be able to execute and perfect it before they’re off to their photoshoot, baby shower, show, audition, first date, bachelorette, mom’s birthday, sister’s wedding, job interview, sons hockey tournament (true story).
Point being— the women who sit in my chair teach me so much, help me so much, laugh with me so much, and often See me so much. It’s beautiful, I love it.
And I ❤️ you!!! So much!
Hope you had the happiest day!!

For those of you who are new here (hey, a good chunk of you) I’m Jess!! My username is whatever you want it to be: JS Faces, J’s Faces, sometimes some of you think it’s Jess Faces. That’s fine too. I’ve had this username for almost 15 years and I still haven’t decided.
I was born in Toronto, raised in a few places by my (extremely) Hispanic/Italian family. I love to talk and eat and make people laugh. I fell into this job because I love people first and makeup second (although it’s kind of tied lately). I’m big on self reflection, asking the hard questions, taking time and space to figure out what works and what doesn’t, and changing and learning as I grow. I could go on about who I am as a person but if you continue to follow along you’ll have a pretty good idea!! My IG stories are quite literally just anything I’m thinking at any given time.
I’ve always approached makeup the same way I approach life— ✨ honestly ✨
No heavy persona, no pretending to be something I’m not. Idek how to do that. I care about the details, the people I work with, and constantly creating something that actually feels like the person who sits in my chair. Connection and community is always at the forefront.
Also quick intermission 🙂↔️ @lilicreativedesign I’ve been shot! You’re the best. I can’t thank you enough for knowing and LOVING me well enough to see me/capture me in this way.
So grateful that I decided 15 years ago to be the girl who stayed at home every weekend watching makeup tutorials til 2am before picking my friends up from the bar lol :)
Ily for reading this until the end. I can’t wait to see how this year unfolds. Hope we get to hangout 🌟

A professional MUA is so much more than the person responsible for how you look on your wedding day or special event. We’re often the very first point of contact in your day. The first person to sit with you, feel your energy, calm your nerves, and help set the tone before everything begins.
There’s something unique and intimate about being this type of artist. We’re close enough to witness the raw, unfiltered moments, yet just outside your inner circle in a way that often makes it easier to exhale and be your most unfiltered-self. That balance creates a kind of comfort that’s hard to explain until you experience it especially on days that can feel emotional, overwhelming, and deeply personal all at once.
Choosing the right MUA isn’t only about finding someone whose work you love. It’s about choosing someone whose presence makes you feel grounded, understood, and like the most authentic version of yourself. Because the way you feel that day will ✨ always ✨ matter just as much as (if not more than) the way you look!

I always feel the most comfortable, confident, and like myself when I dress in men’s clothing. I just can’t seem to escape it🤷🏻♀️
