PROJECT SHOWCASE: St Georges Bay Rd Home
A thoughtful revival of a mid-century icon in Parnell. Originally designed by Group Architect James Hackshaw, this residence has been carefully renovated by Mike Olson, bringing it into the 21st century while honouring its Modernist roots. Alaskan Yellow Cedar cladding in a J55 profile, and finished in a custom light grey JSC Scumble coating, gives the exterior a refined, cohesive finish that complements the home’s Modernist form.

New Zealand’s first floating sauna – now on Lake Whakatipu.
When @watershedsaunas and @makespacebuild first shared the idea with us, we were genuinely stoked. Not just because it floats, but because it centres around wellness and a deeper connection to nature.
Two Finnish-style saunas sit on a floating pontoon with direct access to the lake below. Heat. Cold plunge. Repeat. At your own pace.
Sustainably sourced Vitex from the Solomon Islands was used throughout the project, inside and out, creating a consistent natural material presence across both the pontoon and sauna spaces.
The saunas were crafted in Auckland by Makespace before making their way south to Queenstown, where it officially opened its doors in December 2025.
Proud to have been involved in a project that encourages people to step outside, reset, and reconnect.
Sauna. Lake. Repeat.
We’ll be sharing more about this project soon...
Designed and built by G.J. Gardner Homes Nelson, this 219.6 m² custom home brings together contemporary lines, natural textures, and a warm, coastal-inspired palette.
The exterior uses a thoughtful mix of painted render, stonework, and vertical Western Red Cedar cladding, creating a balanced, cohesive street presence. Installed in a J58 vertical shiplap profile, the Cedar adds subtle rhythm and refinement, with a clean architectural finish.
Inside, the home carries that same easy, relaxed feel - light-filled spaces, soft tones, and a layout designed for modern family living.

A beautiful new Garapa deck just finished in Riverhead. @jsctimber delivering the wood and as always coated in @cuteknewzealand CD50 extreme to handle the harsh NZ UV rays. Whole deck sits on an aluminium subframe from @proframe_nz and modelled perfectly by Sid the border collie!
Set on the Rangitahi Peninsula in Raglan, this home designed & built by @fv_design_and_build is quietly impressive, and for good reason.
Recognised nationally and regionally across multiple House of the Year awards, the home balances strong architectural lines with a calm, coastal feel.
On the exterior, Western Red Cedar cladding combines J55 profiled weatherboards coated in Dryden Dune with J58 centre-groove boards in Dryden Midnight, creating depth and contrast while still sitting comfortably in the landscape.
Inside, Western Hemlock batten detailing brings warmth and texture to key spaces, from the entry feature wall to the kitchen and dining ceiling. Finished in JSC Coda Luxury ‘Lux’ Wax - White, the timber keeps the interior soft, cohesive, and understated.
Massive congrats to the FV Design & Build team on this beautifully resolved home that is warm, restrained, and expertly crafted.
