my name is johannes, I am 35 years old and take pictures for a living. since 2020 I work with the ancient process of wetplate photography, a technique invented in the 1860s. this totally different approach to photography got me hooked from the very moment I saw my first picture appear inside the fixer bath. this photographic process is pure handcraft and every picture is a one-of-a-kind. I specialize in portraits of people and portraits of old cars.
I use different types of fieldcameras and lenses, the combo you see in these pictures is a @intrepidcamera 8x10 camera featuring a 290mm Suter Basel Petzval Lens from the late 19th century. I recently got a big „travel camera“ from the early 20th century that can shoot up to 40cmx40cm plates which I am very excited to use. this camera features a 500mm Carl Zeiss Lens from 1917.
It was about time to take some portraits of me and my plate camera.

Branding- und Logokonzept für den Fotografen Johannes Schembs. 🎞️
Das entstandene Erscheinungsbild umfasst ein modulares Logokonzept mit drei Elementen: einem Kamerasucher-Icon, dem Hauptlogo sowie einer kompakten Variante für kleine Anwendungen wie Favicons. Johannes arbeitet unter anderem mit Silberportraits im historischen Kollodium-Nassplattenverfahren des 19. Jahrhunderts – einer analogen Sofortbildtechnik, die seine gestalterische Identität maßgeblich prägt.
Die geometrische Sans-Serif-Typografie und die abgerundete Rautenform des Logos orientieren sich an Gestaltungsprinzipien der Mid-Century-Modern-Ära und erinnern subtil an klassische Handwerkszeichen. Die Kombination aus schmalen und runderen Buchstaben erzeugt ein charakterstarkes, zeitloses Typobild. Der Kamerasucher dient dabei als verspieltes Detail und verweist auf historische Bildzeichen, die früher zur Darstellung von Handwerken genutzt wurden.
Im gleichen Stil entstanden Visitenkarten in zwei Grüntönen sowie ein Tintenstempel zur Veredelung analoger Arbeiten. Für unterwegs wurde zusätzlich ein vielseitig einsetzbarer Sticker entwickelt, etwa zur Kennzeichnung des Equipments oder für Fotopackaging. Als liebevolles Detail erhielt seine Großformatkamera ein maßgefertigtes Messingschild mit dem Hauptlogo.
