Last month I had the joy of reuniting with two of my dearest collaborators (and old friends) @hannahbbepperson and @margolick to document their piece “Catenary,” a haunting, tender and visceral meditation on care, connection, womanhood and much more. Movement and music still taking on new meaning… i mean how is this possible? Photo Archive 1: Windows I’m loosening the valve on outpouring my art and creation. Reframing my relationship with this app seems to be part of letting that creation flow with ease. At the moment, this is the audience (like it or not). I’m feeling it especially important to share our art now. In a time where it is abundantly clear what we do not want, we need new vision of beauty. For change to occur we need new forms in which to transform. Art inspires these structures. So I’m starting a Photo Archive Project and will be sharing more regularly and less preciously. Releasing perfectionism in favor of movement. Photos, primarily 35mm film, from the past decade or so. This is a collection of photos of windows. Openings through which to see the other. But mostly because I love a frame within a frame. Let the light in.

I’m so excited to share the music video for “Your Bones” by Sima Cunningham @simaamis (the link is in my bio). I’ve known Sima for nearly 20 years and this community here in Chicago is so deeply rooted in who I am, yet has so fluidly evolved as we’ve all grown adding new collaborators, children and perspectives along the way. To me, this is a song about holding space. About caring from afar and trusting that these elastic bonds of love will stretch when necessary but also draw us in close. Strengthening the ability to stretch, the allowance of space, i believe, only empowers the inevitable contraction of togetherness. I think a testament to this sentiment is that no matter the distance I’ve taken, I’ve always had a home here in Chicago. In one of the most inspiring examples of community i have even known. As one who’s dearest, at times, seem scattered across the globe, i am indebted to this rubbery property of love. So thank you to those i love for trusting these elastic bonds, holding both space and closeness and allowing me to be me. Thank you sima for your music and a collaboration and community now spanning decades. Thank you Chicago, the yard, my family, my friends near and far. And of course thank you to our glorious “cast” of friends for showing up (and eating chicken for breakfast).
