J.P. Ross is a multifaceted performer, born and raised right here in the greatest city in the world! J.P. received his earliest introduction to music through his family and his upbringing in the baptist church. Although J.P. came from a family of educators and administrators, he took a particular interest in the musical abilities of his mother and closest aunts who were and are excellent singers. This was only furthered as every Sunday he sat next to Mamaw in the church pew, taking in the very sounds that would be the backbone of his identity as a performer in music. In his adolescent and young adult years J.P. would undergo a multitude of training in both music and theater. Eventually landing him at Brooklyn High School of the Arts where he majored in Theater and Instrumental music. Then attending Columbia College Chicago training for his BFA in musical theater. Upon his return to New York, J.P. would immediately begin working gaining multiple Off Broadway and regional theater credits including “Sleepy Hollow” at the Players theater, Lydian de Rozier in “Lilies: or the Revival of a Romantic Comedy” and Zion in “Mannequin Diaries” directed by Tony award winner Trazana Beverley. Aside from his time on the stage J.P. is known well across NYC as a musician and teaching artist. J.P. works as an instructor in vocals, bass, guitar and piano at “The Brooklyn Music Factory” in Gowanus. As well as working with “The Stars of Tomorrow Project” of which he is an alumni. Here J.P. works under co-founders Tony Danza and Brian D. Hills, offering his services teaching and conducting vocal music in the programs’ “Cops and Kids Chorus.” J.P. also looks forward to the debut of a musical of his very own design titled “The Music(Al) Mann.” Which focuses on the importance of arts education and the funding thereof, in inner cities. Also, how the
improperly justified removal of such resources can be a true detriment to the development of children and youths in these very places.
