Based on Anju Singh and Roxanne Nesbitt’s research and methodology I am using the COPY FIRST method - building a copy of a traditional instrument. Here is mid process of making ceramic drum sticks. They are designed to look like traditional drum sticks- different tips, mallets, hot rods and brushes. @meghubert_ceramics guided me with materials and tools as well as techniques. I will be trying these ceramic sticks out on a cymbal installation made from salvaged broken cymbals.
**** In a previous version of this post I incorrectly credited a different person- sincere apologies to Anju and Roxanne for this mistake.
The performance is on March 1 at 7 pm at @progress_lab_1422@currently_arts@whatismakingussick@roxannenesbitt@franciscoberlanga97@slime____studio@daniellagramani@progress_lab_
I haven’t been performing as much the past few years. But 2025 gave me some incredible opportunities to play that I will forever be grateful for!
Here were the shows I played this year
1- Juno Awards at Rogers Arena with @snottynoserezkids and Tia Wood. What a huge honour to share the stage with these incredible artists
2- @tinylightsfestival for a final show with e.s.l. This was deeply meaningful to have the chance to perform this festival. We have been playing music together for 20 years and I am forever grateful we had one last chance to play again.
3- @insidevoices.events in Winlaw with @prophecysun . Our parents played music together and we carry on this with our art together.
4- Tia Wood at the @chancentreubc . What a beautiful group of people and space to perform in
