🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ TONIGHT! 5-9pm at Eleven:Eleven for @capitolhillartwalk Julie-C @joulesea and Carolyn HiTT @cmehitt present “SOLIDARITY : 11 Principles for Creative Liberation.” ❤️‍🔥 A synthesis of art, movement work, and community-rooted solution-making, “Solidarity” is a multimedia experiment in emergence and co-creation. 🖤 Building on the framework Julie-C has been sharing over last month - catalyzed by the newly proclaimed “Creator and Creative Economy Month” in Seattle - the intention of the show is to share the drop of the 1st edition zine, and call in our community to participate, review, respond, and most importantly, to JOIN IN this process of developing a shared framework for true systems change in Seattle’s Creative Economy. 📡 Will you join us as collaborator and co-author/co-conspirator in building solidarity for systems change in art? HOLLER! #ontheblockseattle #seattle #artwalk #supportlocal #artistsoninstagram

🖤 #Creativesolidarity is supporting alternatives and solution-making to the fuckery that is “creative economy”. And cooperation is key. 📡 Thus when I first heard of @subvertworld project last year from @prometheusbrown and @gabrielteodros , I sent in my lil $100 dues, got my zine, and am excited to see what’s next. 🧠 I don’t know what the future holds for music industry, but I know these dominant platforms that be aren’t for us, so I’m here for all the efforts to unlearn, dismantle, and create anew. 🌸I’m member-owner #6681🌸 🎶 ‼️ There’s a super sneaky exclusive Subvert-only single I released up on my artist page produced by @tonemadedisbeat and ft. @kalligraphy45 and @queen_pzo . All proceeds, should you choose to cop, go to supporting our movement @ontheblockseattle (link in bio)‼️🎶 ❤️‍🔥 About Subvert: “Subvert is a cooperative working to build an online marketplace where artists and labels can sell music and merchandise directly to their supporters. We’re creating a platform that is owned and controlled by its community of artists, labels, supporters, and workers.” #subvert #music #creative

🌸 As artists we are often admonished to “protect our intellectual property”, and indeed in these “creative industries”, we should BUT 🤔 Have you ever wondered about the origins of “intellectual property? The roots of this precarious edifice that served as such an effective mechanism for value extraction and wealth consolidation for the hands of a such few? 🗣️🗣️🗣️ You should! 🗣️🗣️🗣️ 🙏 I had to take a break from our Principles of Creative Liberation for a lil detour down some recent learning from historian Adrian Johns. 👂 Tell me what you think? 🎶 Instrumentals in this reel by @intylekt and @tonemadedisbeat 🎶 #creatives #creators #History #artistsoftiktok #ip

🤓 Principle 9 of 11! As an artist and advocate for artists (and the decolonization of creativity in our hearts, minds, and ecosystems), I think about these topics a lot, so I been sharing more behind WHY we move how we move: in #CreativeSolidarity here @OnTheBlockSeattle - a hyperlocal ecosystem which includes our 4 creative spaces, but more importantly our community of four dozen individual creatives repping dozens of microbusinesses, and autonomous entities. 💡This series offers 11 Principles for Creative Liberation for systems change in Creative Economy. 1️⃣ You are not a “product”, you are labor producing value in systems. 2️⃣ The “self-made/lone wolf/genius” ideal is FUNCTIONAL mythology that keeps you burnt out and isolated from power. 3️⃣ Collaboration is collective strategy. We must prioritize it if we seek to transform systems in creative industries. 4️⃣ Not all your labor is recognized and compensated for in current systems, but ALL of it produces VALUE 💰 5️⃣ Platforms and markets are not neutral. As much as we invest into extractive systems, we must seek to match in building alternatives 🧱 6️⃣ Creative and cultural extraction is often masked as opportunity. We must broaden our scope to an ecosystems-level analysis to see the full picture. 7️⃣ Space 👏 is 👏 power! BUT ownership and stewardship structures of any given space determine WHO its power serves 👀 8️⃣ Community solutions already exist 💯. Build from them!!! 9️⃣ The health of your career and practice and that of your local creative ecosystem is intertwined. Act like it!! 👀 📚 More: On The Block is a living creative ecosystem advancing the mission of Seattle Artist Coalition for Equitable Development reclaiming space and agency for artists, cultural workers, and historically displaced communities. ✊ Through creative-solution making, coordination, and direct investment, Seattle ACED works to ensure that artists and cultural workers are not displaced by urban change—but are resourced and positioned to shape it. #seattlecreatives #community #ontheblockseattle #pnwcreatives

Yesterday’s #rant. Look im not shading short form, we clearly here making and consuming it. But my point here is that policymakers and people who hold power within dominant systems in creative industries have been failing you with their “boot strap” and “hustle grind” centrism. Sometimes their hustle IS selling you this bullshit. They’ve made careers of it. We need collective critical analysis, unlearning, and reframing. I’m looking forward to @cre8tesummit for this reason. This sets up the conditions for the collective advocacy and cooperative economic structures necessary for our thriving. Principle 9 tomorrow, probably. #creative #seattle #pnwcreatives #seattlecreatives
