one of my favourite moments when i work as a tech is the “quiet before the storm” mode after a successful line check / reset of stage. the moment before the show i’m working for begins. i can’t say what it feels like for anyone else but it’s the most peaceful moment of the day for me. im in my most zen state, completely dialled in the zone. triple checking everything works and is in the right place. I’m surrounded people who care that the show goes well and work hard to make it happen 🤙✌️🙏🫶 it these moments, walking in the dark in front of a ton of excited people waiting for something to happen, that make me truly feel lucky! 💘 as ever, a true pleasure working with the bombay bicycle club gang 😍 on this show I am looking after drums, bass and playback. Running midi to guitar pedal boards and kempers for auto switching 🤙

dreaming.. another vibe I’ve been working on. I’ve been loving the orchestration of samples right now. Online crate digging if you will. Trying to put things that may not work together to create something that inspires me 🫶🤙

for all the audio and drum nerds out there.. 😘 I will say I can get a good sound from most mics / drums, and there are many great companies I’ve had the pleasure to use and some I’d love to try, but this combo rules for now! The trick is to get the kit sounding epic then use what ever you’ve got around you to make it sound like it does naturally and emphasise some more of the sound around it. royer r10 - overheads.. usually close in to the drums as well as cymbals. I don’t sweep to much lows out, more mid to high frequency spikes to tame the cymbals. austrian audio CC8 - geek or wurst position depending on where you learnt it. If I had only one mic to record with it would go there! - underworld king position. Under the snare but not close to it, pointed at the kick drum. Pick up the best of snare bottom and the kick drum beater definition. I nicked this idea from a live stream of Darren kings. I’d never seen it before. I have adapted it to my needs and partially named it after him. If I only had four mics to record with these would be them! The rest is colour and added high definition. Snare drum is the universal audio SD1 It my favourite but it could also be a SD7 or an SD3 I do sometimes use a condenser if I trust the drummer or my self to play well enough as the hi hat bleed kills me! Kick drum - universal audio sd5 kick out, sd7 kick mid. DPA 4055 kick in. If I had to pick one it would be the DPA but I need all 3 to make my preferred kick drum sound! I hardly eq anymore I sum mix these three into a bus and print it to one great sound. Close tom mics are universal audio sd7s Room mic is a Townsend sphere labs (now universal audio) I switch mic profiles of the universal audio mics all the time. I use it as much as I use eq. Booth is kube vocal booth, sounds better than I dreamed it would. More on this room later :)

still no promises as to when, but I have too many songs floating around to pretend that I don’t have something to put back out into the world 💘

lots of writing recently, who knows if all of these will make it out into the wild. Also who knows when that will happen. I’m trying to just create and stay / enjoy in the moment 💘

It’s amazing how far a song can take you and the different twists and turns along the way as you try to lick it into shape. This is our new single ‘Anchor’ which is out today. We are so delighted with how it’s turned out - do hope you enjoy listening to it too! ✨ We had the privilege of working with the wonderful @edwardsmusic in the early days of writing this song. We rocked up at his studio with a clutch full of musical ideas, riffs, chord progressions and some lyrics and he instantly saw how it could all piece together - he is (amongst many things) an amazing song arranger/producer - thank you Mark! Huge thanks also to the wonderful team at @salvationmusicstudiosbtn where we recorded the majority of this track. What an absolute delight recording there…it truly is a dream studio! And massive thanks and gratitude to everyone involved, with special thanks to: @joshpgale @jakestimson @seldomseentrev @ben.forrest_ @sarahdavisoncellist @eddiegreen @rosiej0e - what would we do without you guys! Vocals, BV’s & Keys - @charlyjaywood Guitars & Bass - Luis Wood Drums - Ben Forest Piano/Rhodes & Song arrangement Mark Edwards Cello - Sarah Davidson Additional recording Josh Gale & Jake Stimson Mixed & Mastered by Trevor Michael Produced by Josh Gale & Standing Phase Artwork/Visuals - Ed Green Filming/Photos - Rosiejoe Album cover 📷 @cuttlebone.co.uk Written by Charly Jay-Wood & Luis Wood Thanks for listening! 💘
