This month I compeleted @dancecoachdylan dance confidence training program. 12 weeks of 1-1 coaching on Kizomba, Urban Kiz, Tarraxo, and community building. This past week I attended his dance company's (@yinyang.kiz ). It was like a graduation event for our training. Thank you @dancecoachdylan for these last 3 months. Because of that, it’s probably the genre I’ve traveled the most for (though I’ve also travelled extensively for bachata and Brazilian zouk too). Last Monday, I returned from my week long vist to DC for the Cherry Blossom Kizomba Festival. This was my first event of the year and 2nd time attending, and what a way to start the year. I got to start my week visiting @dc.kiz.community at their Monday social which is always good vibes. Then started the festival with the always important pre-party at @crown_dance_studio who's team( @sir_teraythesecond & @definitely.nat ) really leaned into the the weekend the kizomba world. Friday, I got to tap in with Sensei @samykiz , who got me tuned up before the J&J. After this I took some amazing classes but honestly spent most of this time social dancing and connecting with folks. Pittsburgh (@addison.f.henc & @phenomenalolie ) and Orlando (@matrix_of_movement ) are definitely on my radar as Kiz scenes I need to visit. Lastly, I competed in my first Urban Kiz Jack & Jill were I placed second and found a new Kizombro/rival @cashmoney0696 haha (So much energy but a great roommate). I'd like thank @juste_pehoua for organizing a dope event. I'd to thank @dc.kiz.community for being my secondary dance home. I'd like to that @saltandi_dance crew for letting me lodge with yall this weekend. Thank you Coach @dancecoachdylan your training definitely prepare me well for this weekend. Lastly thank to all my training partners these last few months (@ellie_hanson99 , @dancingdworak , @rrrrrrrrrach ,@wyldheartwoodelf ,@wyldheartwoodelf , @kmantle.96 , @etina_morrissey123 , @melissamae1976 , @jerryjermmz ). In response @dj_casanova_boston sermon yesterday about leads needing to put in more work, I thought I'd post some training footage. Last week @dancingdworak were working on Urban Saidas, we putting in that grind before seeing Mr. GOLD STANDARD himself at the end of this month. Reconnecting with the Foundations: Hello Twin Cities dance community: After traveling this past year, we’ve learned a lot, but with all the new techniques we learn, we remember it always comes back to the foundations. With that in mind, we decided to put together a boot camp to focus on re-skilling the essentials of kizomba, such as frame, connection, lead & follow technique, etc. We enlisted our friend Amen who we met at The Final OneKiz. Amen is a long-time Kizomba instructor based out of Columbus, OH, who teaches Kizomba and Urban Kiz locally and across North America. He is excited to come to Minneapolis to share his knowledge and dance with us. This workshop is for dancers of all skill levels; beginner to experienced kizomba dancers, dancers from other styles, and anyone who’s just curious about partner dancing. Pricing: $15-50: For this bootcamp, we’re using a sliding scale. The sliding scale is pay what you want. We understand this difficult time in the city, and we wanted to give access to as many folks as possible to help grow and level up the community. Amen is just visiting Minneapolis, and we asked him to do this as a friend. Profits from the event will go directly to Amen to compensate him for his time and expertise. So last Monday on MLK, I had the day off and decided to celebrate my freedom through enjoying some kizomba practice with our community auntie 🤣. Thank @etina_morrissey123 for opening your home to dance. You are a constant source of cultural education and energy. I enjoyed our practice working on body connection and staying grounded. Thank you @thecoachamen for the drills, and the Etina's two daughters who made sure we weren't cheating the exercises. I look forward to our next practice session.
