There is something deeply intoxicating about the moody works of Joseph Adolphe. Layers of darkness, submerged forms, and fractured light all come together like a slow fermentation process where time, pressure, and restraint create something richer than what first existed. His works feel especially at home in dark interiors. Rooms wrapped in deep tones, soft shadows, walnut woods, worn linens, and low light. Spaces with confidence. Spaces with edge. Tasteful dark homes are never for the soft. They are for people unafraid of atmosphere, emotion, or depth. Like fermentation itself, Joseph’s paintings transform over time. The longer you sit with them, the more they reveal. Fortune favors the bold, and so does collecting art that dares to linger in mystery.

We are pleased to announce that Joseph Adolphe is joining our roster of artists at Edgewater Gallery on the Green. @joseph.adolphe Hailing from Calgary, Canada, Adolphe is a Canadian-American painter whose work has been exhibited internationally and is rooted in both the physical and metaphysical, exploring how the visible world reflects inner emotional and psychological states. His paintings often balance vulnerability and resilience, drawing from intimate, autobiographical experiences while speaking to something universal. We are introducing his powerful series A Floating World, born from a deeply personal chapter in the artist’s life. During a period of crisis within his family, small origami figures began appearing throughout his home—quiet markers of healing, patience, and care. In response, Adolphe began painting them. Birds drift, gather, and endure, sometimes alone, sometimes together, sometimes caught in storms. This work reminds us that healing is not linear, but it is possible. For more information, visit our website or come to Edgewater Gallery on the Green to view the work in person. #oilpaint #edgewatergalleryvt #josephadolphe

In his “Locutions” series, Joseph Adolphe gives shape to something we can’t quite see. The floating forms become messages that carry a sense of peace, encouragement, and possibility 🤍 We love that they leave space for each viewer to find their own meaning A Premonition - oil on canvas, 80 x 72 A Petition - oil on canvas, 95 x 79 Another Petition No. 2 - oil on canvas, 60 x 48
