Spanning a wide variety of formats, the exhibition brings together over a hundred works from the artist’s early career to his most recent creations. It features materials and mediums that have long defined Tayou’s artistic vocabulary : glass, crystal, pastel-hued chalk - his recurring chromatic palette - plastic bags, and found objects repurposed into formal and conceptual explorations. From October 10 to 15, 1997, to celebrate TATI’s 50th anniversary, Seydou Keïta and Malick Sidibé moved their famous photo studios under the Barbès metro. At the invitation of Fabien Ouaki, the company’s CEO, and André Magnin, director of The Jean Pigozzi African Art Collection, the photographers were given carte blanche to recreate a vivid picture of diversity and elegance through a myriad of portraits. A privileged witness, André Magnin filmed the photo shoots behind the scenes. These rare, immersive archives allow us to rediscover this historic moment and watch two masters of contemporary photography at work.
