For most of my life, I’ve lived with severe psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. It shaped my days in ways many couldn’t see — the flare-ups, the pain, the frustration of feeling like a prisoner in my own body. It’s been both physically and emotionally taxing. For the last few years I had a window of relief, and for a while it felt like I’d outrun it. This year, I’ve felt it creeping back. I can’t run as fast or as long as I once could, and I can’t kick a ball the way I used to. Some mornings are tougher than others. For so long I wallowed in self-pity. But instead of focusing on what I’ve lost, I’m choosing to focus on what I still have — the gift of mobility, the ability to still use my fingers on the piano and guitar, and just the small victories in movement. Incredibly grateful for this year being able to make memories with old friends and new friends I’ve met along the way. Seriously this summer has been amazing. Everybody is going through something, no matter what it looks like on the outside. I’ve found gratitude to lessen the weight of this challenge and I’m extremely aware that it could be much MUCH worse.
