“Feathered Flames of Huitzilopochtli”
Birthed from hummingbird feathers and his mother Coatlicue, Huitzilopochtli sprang forth from the womb, fully armed as the Warrior of the Sun. His fiery ascent scattered the stars and struck down the moon, defending his mother Earth.
The blossoms blaze like fire, and the palms spread out like the feathers of Huitzilopochtli’s headdress. Bursting upwards from the earthly vessel, it echoes the sun’s daily triumph over the night.

I was invited to join a couple classes to review some of the kakei-ho, the foundational forms of Sogetsu Ikebana. First was a moribana (using shallow container) upright styles, and today was nageire (using tall upright container) slanting styles, using the tate-no-soegi-dome for the structural foundation of the arrangement.
Having limited time, getting our proportions measured, and doing multiple arrangements done in a single class, it really helped show me the similarities and differences between the basic forms. I got lots of practice in tate-no-soegi-dome, stem placement, and stem cutting angle. The class also helped familiarize myself with the direction flowers and leaves point, and that they face in the correct direction.
The class was intense, and I loved it. So happy to have @katsukothielke as my sensei to guide me through my journey studying Sogetsu Ikebana.

After much thinking, planning, and building, I was finally able to give @cmarieelder my gift to her. First time building something like this.
She loves Wicked and Glinda, and she once mentioned that she had always wanted a doll house, so I decided to build her a display based off of Glinda’s “Girl in the Bubble” scene, 1 of 1. I’m so happy that she loves it. Love you Cynthia 🥰

Being a man in the trades, it sometimes surprises people when they find out I’m into flower arranging.
This arrangement feels like a self-portrait. The hidden flower artist peeking through an outer shell. A quieter creative side that has always been there, and is slowly realizing more of it as I grow and learn about myself.
