Sessions Arts Club has returned to Frieze London with a dining installation that feels as primal as it does cinematic. Conceived by founder @jonny_gent in collaboration with architect Russell Potter of @sodalondon and Richard J McConkey of @astudiobetween , the space is imagined as both cave and confessional. Its mise en scène borrows from the textures of Lascaux and the charged blue-lit tension of Paul Verhoeven’s Basic Instinct, creating an atmosphere that oscillates between ritual, seduction and theatre. Botanical interventions by @hattiefoxstudio add layers of surreal flora, while cut-out forms and sculptural details echo Gent’s artistic practice. The kitchen, led by chef @abihill100 , offers a menu of seasonal restraint and elemental beauty: Carlingford oysters, Jerusalem artichoke risotto, fennel salami and goat’s curd with rainbow chard, all designed to mirror the space’s quiet intensity. This year’s edition also includes limited artefacts and collaborations that extend the Sessions ethos beyond the dining room, from Tekla bags embroidered with Gent’s handwriting to @completedworks objects and Drake’s x SAC x Cabin Studio caps. Together, they form a temporary but unforgettable interlude at the heart of Frieze London 2025. FOOD VOL 1 Available at @sessionsartsclub (when making reservation or in person) @antennebooks @magculture @booksforcookslondon @goodnews.soholondon.magazines Forward by Peter Kapos @das_programmagram Today the former courthouse, Sessions House, is more inhabited than occupied by Sessions Arts Club. A quasi-institutional rigour of self-documentation is practiced. Plates, uniforms, equipment, fixtures, doodles, journeys, stairwells. ‘Quasi’ because the order is enigmatic: all jurisdiction and no law.   Even so, weighed out and assembled, the parts are put to work. At each sitting, they are fashioned into a provisional, precarious whole. You can help, too. There’s risk, though. The atmosphere is slightly conspiratorial.   Less of a mystery, the fashioning is the work of individual humans. Chefs, porters, waiters, reception, bar. Love is palpable: ‘Studio’.   Our present is defined by failing institutions, law, and objective measure. What is the relevance of Romanticism amidst a Post-Enlightenment melt-down?  Not as the critique of self-evidently shabby authority.  But, perhaps, as an invitation to join in making something beautiful: A project with ‘no claim to completeness or finality’.

My great-great-grandfather, Tadhg (Thady) Kilgannon (b. 1862), was a photographer, printer, and publisher, he captured over 2,000 images of the town and its people, while producing newspapers, postcards, and the influential Kilgannon’s Almanac for North Connaught (1906). His Sligo and its Surroundings (1926) remains a defining record of the region’s history and identity. He transformed Sligo’s cultural scene as owner of its first cinemas—the (500 seat, RCA sound) Picture Theatre and The Pavilion—bringing film and live performance to the heart of the town. The last film ever shown at the Picture Theatre is believed to have been Bohemian Girl. He was killed whilst taking his evening walk in 1938, aged 75.

I read Jago’s book in a day and a half, and I imagine I’ll read it for the next 70 years. It feels right to post this on a Sunday. Jago is, all at once, a grandma, a poet, an old war hero returned. The reasoning for his heroism is murky, yet it’s not in doubt. I would feel equally as comfortable chatting to him long into the night, until the lawn steams like a horse, as I would wrestling him under the dining table for fun, with our shirts off. I guess this feels like a brother. His book, like family. @ecstasy_cookbook To Entertain
