Yesterday in Porkkala, photographing something very special: @laine_magazine 10-year anniversary issue. Along the shoreline and in the forest, under a completely cloudless, blue sky. There were gulls singing overhead, one furious squirrel, snakes warming themselves on the rocks, lots of laughter and the familiar rhythm of a team that knows each other well. And maybe that’s what this issue is really about, too. Shetland. Wind, wool and the kind of silence that isn’t really silence at all. We came here to shoot @gudrunjohnston ’s book, but it’s never just that. It’s places like this that remind you why you started in the first place. Not the numbers, not the plans, not the next thing. Just this. Cold sea. (I did go in. Questionable life choice.) And then, the only acceptable follow-up: the @haar.sauna on the beach, heat that feels almost unreal after the North Sea. Sheep everywhere. Textures you can’t fake. Dallas Dump. Dallas was supposed to be a work trip. A @knittingintheheartoftexas retreat, a keynote and a few days surrounded by people who take knitting seriously in the best possible way. Honestly, that alone would have been enough. There’s something grounding about being in a room where you don’t have to explain what you do or why it matters. Then, of course, there was everything else. The kind of neighbourhoods I didn’t expect to find here: a bit rough, a bit beautiful, full of colour. Bookstores that felt more like living rooms. Deep Ellum walls I apparently needed to photograph from every possible angle. And yes, hockey. Because if I end up in Dallas and don’t go to a @dallasstars game, something has gone very wrong. Two games, two wins — I’ll take that. But what really stays is the people. This international knitting community still surprises me. The openness, the generosity, the way conversations move so easily from small talk to something real. You share a few stitches and suddenly you’re sharing much more than that. So yes, it was a work trip. But also not really. And to everyone I got to meet: thank you for the conversations, the hugs, the laughter (and yes, tears too). A special thank you to Kaiwen @knit.atx and Rachelle @moondrakeco for bringing all of this together. Weeks ago, deep in winter, I played with colour combinations and shared them in my stories, pulling ideas from the catwalks. This trio, red, beige and that bright blue (one of the new @laine_magazine x @novitaknits shades), clearly resonated. I’ve already seen it on a few needles, which makes me super happy! ❤️ The new Laine x Novita colours lean slightly outside my usual palette: bold blue, sharp orange, emerald green (more in stories). But this time it wasn’t about single colours. It was about how they work together, how they create something bigger as a whole. Now if my shoulder, which has been acting up for over a year, would just keep up… Though maybe this is exactly the kind of situation where the only real solution is to knit more…? #lainexnovita #lainemagazine #lainepublishing #yarn #knitting

What a week. Most of it spent at the London Book Fair, home late last night and back at the office this morning. These trips always leave me feeling inspired. Conversations with people who truly love books and understand stories deeply = magical. 🖤 One very nice thing waiting for me next week are these two sweaters I’ll be releasing. The green one is Scarborough, and the V-neck is still waiting for its name. Both are knitted using @laine_magazine x @novitaknits 4ply held together with silk mohair, a combination I keep coming back to. (Finnish below.) I actually have three families. My own. The international knitting community. And @ilveshockey . Ice hockey has been a part of me for as long as I can remember – a love that started before school, before anything else really, and one that has only grown deeper with time. Through the game, I always return to my roots: to being my father’s daughter, the girl who loved the sound of the puck hitting the blade more than anything in the world. To me, ice hockey is not just a sport. It’s a beautiful, captivating, equal and deeply solidaristic community. A place of belonging. When I was asked to speak about my love for Ilves for @liiga.fi website and the Meidän peli podcast, I didn’t hesitate for a second. P.S. Link to the article and the podcast in Stories. Mulla on oikeastaan kolme perhettä: 1) se ”oikea”, oma perheeni, 2) kansainvälinen neuleyhteisö ja 3) @ilveshockey . Jääkiekko on ollut suuri ja suunnattoman rakas osa elämääni alle kouluikäisestä, eikä sen merkitys ole ainakaan vähentynyt vuosien varrella – päinvastoin: pelissä palaan aina juurilleni, siksi isän tytöksi, joka rakasti lapaan kolahtavan kiekon ääntä enemmän kuin mitään muuta. Mulle jääkiekko tarkoittaa ennen kaikkea kaunista, kiehtovaa, tasa-arvoista ja solidaarista yhteisöä. A work week in Tokyo. More than a dozen meetings, thoughtful conversations, ideas unfolding quietly into plans for the future. Long days and the loveliest evenings. One hidden, candlelit jazz bar tucked away behind unassuming doors. And of course, a karaoke bar, too. (Sorry, fellow sing stars!) So much food. One onigiri, in particular, felt like a small piece of art; simple, precise, unforgettable. And friends. To my dear Tokyo people: thank you for the laughter, the tears of being moved and the ease of it all. I won’t say much more about work here (yet), but if everything goes as planned, I’ll be back in the autumn. Happy & tired in the best possible way.
