A selection of six works from the Fifty Sisters series is currently showing as part of "Synchron City", curated by Cassie May. Gippsland Art Gallery @gippsartgallery until February 22nd, 2026. Each image is a computer evolved plant – formed from the deconstructed elements of oil company logos. The title of the work refers to the "Seven Sisters" – a cartel of seven oil companies that dominated the global petrochemical industry and Middle East oil production from the mid-1940s until the oil crisis of the 1970s. By referencing plant forms, the work reminds us that humanity's global dependence on oil comes from Carboniferous plants that formed a large part of the Earth's flora millions of years ago.
