➕“What if I paired this, with this?” There are three guiding principles that have directed my approach to photography and storytelling over the years: Evoke Emotion, Invite Curiosity, and Pair Disparate Things. Digging into that third one here with some examples on just how powerful contrast and juxtaposition can be when you add it to your creative toolkit. We’re finally on the other side of the snow here (fingers crossed), but with the intent of not leaving all my photos on hard drives, I had to share a few of these from a memorable morning at @basinglacialwaters earlier this year. While Lake Louise in the warmer months is incredibly tough to beat, there’s something about the contrast with the snow and cold that always makes it a toss up for me on which season I enjoy there most. It’s hands down one of my favourite areas and truly an escape that delivers year-round. A few moments with a great group and some exceptional hospitality from the @fairmontcll team.

She’s the kind of person that you’ll have a hard time being sad around because her smiles and laughter are infectious. You’ll have a hard time being hungry because she’s always making something delicious or packing snacks. You’ll have a hard time not leaving inspired by her creativity, resourcefulness, tenacity, or some clever DIY project. And somehow in the midst of it all, you’ll always feel at home because she can’t help but add warmth and presence to the spaces she inhabits. It’s been fun applying years of portrait photography to documenting the places and moments on trips with @berninemarie . Sometimes they’re just the in-between moments, and sometimes they’re places like this that get the creative juices flowing a little bit more. Photography, video, and being able to tell stories just keeps getting more accessible, and that’s something I’m so grateful for.
After discovering hundreds of family photos preserved on Kodachrome slides it’s had me thinking a lot about how future generations will engage with everything we’ve captured and created. Especially for those of us in creative fields I’m curious what moments will catch their eye, what will inspire their own stories decades from now?

In a world where so much (especially the culture we consume) can feel increasingly disposable, temporary, so finite, I’ve always found myself drawn to the work of those who build worlds and create ideas that live on far beyond their limited time here. We had a chance to spend some time in the Canaries this month and it was my second time getting to experience the work of César Manrique up close. An artist, sculptor, architect, photographer, and visionary, he left an indelible mark on the island of Lanzarote and reminded me once again that one does not have to choose one ‘niche’ or one singular conforming path. Here’s a few snaps from our morning at ‘Lagomar’, the former residence of actor Omar Sharif and one of César’s projects.

There’s this balance between routine and novelty that I often find myself seeking - something common it seems amongst those doing creative work. With some intention, changes of scenery tend to offer the opportunity to do both - reset our routines and offer a spark of newness to the everyday. B and I had the chance to spend a few days at @thehiddeneh cabin (Sunshine Valley, BC) in late April and getting to see the hard work the family behind this space has put in to bring their dream to life is so inspiring. I’ve talked for years about a cabin project and their space definitely ramped those dreams back up again. Anyone else? If you’re out that way (near Hope, BC) - definitely check them out, with 3 beds and 2 baths it’s bigger than most and a great space for a retreat, family trip, or group getaway.

Had the chance to collaborate in the second half of last year with @_leshajay while testing out the Canon RF 35mm f1.4 L VCM lens (my favourite focal length). Lesha always seems to elevate a creative concept or idea and it’s been a privilege to collaborate on a variety of concepts over the years.
